Sorry, it might take ya off guard but i was just wondering what you guys think about operating a direct flight from US to Nepal having a stop at Europe so that it can cover a popular European destination too. As we all know, lot of Nepalese are residing in US and Europe, can an airline really afford to do so? possible route: KTM-Heathrow-JFK.

I wud love that but i donn see any possibilities. If our national carrier was in a stronger position it might have been true in near future (in considering Tourism year 2011) but its almost sunk in the debts. I donn think any other airlines will take that risk.

Isn't JFK more popular destination than DC?I was thinking JFK covers more Nepali diaspora in NY,NJ,PA,DE,CT,RI than DC.Also,I think JFK has more connecting flights to US cities than DC.

Surprised to see this.... One fact.... There is not Direct Heathrow Kathmandu flight. So the route could be...... JFK ------>LHR ----->DOH -----> KTM, which is already in place. KTM -----> LHR Direct, there used to be one from RNAC till 2001.... but u al know what happen after that !!! I have heard that there is a new airlines starting to fly Amstradam (Netherlands) ----> KTM Direct , that may ease the pain !!

MN_Nepali, we are not talking about operating an airlines but we are just discussing the prospects on the possible flight to Nepal. gyanguru bro, we all know Nepalese population has increased significantly in Europe and America in last 5-7 yrs so if RNAC was able to maintain the direct flight to London till 2001 theres no question another airline couldnot. i found this from the following link http://www.sajha.com/sajha/html/openthread.cfm?threadid=80159#760168 Arkefly, the airline based in Haarlemmermeer in the Netherlands, has announced that it will operate non-stop flights from Amsterdam, the Netherlands, to Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, from October 7, 2009. The Amsterdam-Kathmandu service – to be operated once a week initially – will provide air connectivity between Europe and Nepal after a break of 5 years. The first Arkefly flight, using a Boeing 737aircraft, is scheduled to land at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu at 2.30 p.m. on October 7, 2009. According to Nepal’s Ministry of Tourism of Civil Aviation, Arkefly will put in place the regular flight frequency after assessing the commercial viability of the Amsterdam-Kathmandu service. There has been no direct flight between Europe and Nepal after Nepal Airlines, the state-owned national flag-carrier of Nepal, suspended its services to the European cities of London, Frankfurt and Moscow 5 years ago. Other Europe-based airlines like Austrian Airlines, too, stopped flying directly to Kathmandu in the same period. In a statement, Arkefly said it decided to operate direct flights from the Netherlands to Nepal in accordance with the Air Service Agreement (ASA) signed between the European Union (EU) and Nepal and about 10 years ago. Qatar Airways, the flag-carrier airline of Qatar, will be allowed to raise the number of its flights to Nepal 28 each week as per an agreement signed between Qatar and Nepal in September 2009. The new Amsterdam-Kathmandu service is expected to give a fillip to Destination Nepal Year-2011, according to Nepal’s Ministry of Tourism of Civil Aviation. As a part of the Destination Nepal Year-2011, China Eastern Airlines, based in Shanghai in China, has also been operating 3 flights a week between Quinmin in China and Kathmandu since September 20, 2009.

It would be great to have a direct flight. There used to be direct flight from DC to Nepal (one stop of about an hour in austria) and it used to take about 16-17 hours. My mom took that flight back in 2006. She flew today in the evening and next day she is home .. wow factor but i am sure if there is a direct flight (less then 18 hrs) would be great.

Wow! I didnt know they had direct flight from DC.r ya sure about that?Never heard that route coz i was here in 2006.Any way, there are some possibilities that some airline might do that?I would love Etihad doing NewYork-Ktm with a stop at Abu Dhabi or even Qatar with a stop at Doha.
