            नेपालको तर्फबाट संयुक्त राष्ट्रसंघको ६६ औं महासभाको अध्यक्षका लागि उम्मेदवार बनाइएका कुलचन्द्र गौतम पराजित हुनुमा नेपालको कूटनीतिक असक्षमता पहिलो कारण हो । यसमा नेपालको वा गौतमको महत्वाकांक्षाको ऐना चुरचुर भएर फुटेको छ । किन पराजित हुनुभयो यसको उत्तर सामान्य छ । द्वन्द्वले जकडिएको नेपालमा जुन मुलुकको सरकारले आफ्नै देशमा राजनीतिक शान्ति र स्थायित्व दिन सकेको छैन त्यस्तो मुलुकले अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय पद ताक्नु सरासर गल्ती थियो । आफ्नो मुलुकभित्र राजनीतिक दलहरुले शान्ति र संविधान बनाउने काम नसकेको मुलुकले राजनीतिक तवरबाटै अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय कूटनीतिक राजनीतिमा हात हाल्नुको कुनै अर्थ थिएन । गौतमलाई नेपालका केही आफूलाई बुद्धिजीवी भनाउने सीमित वर्गहरुको बलमा तत्कालिन प्रधानमन्त्री माधव नेपालको सरकारले गौतमको विगतको युनिसेफको जागिरलाई देखाउँदै त्यहाँ जवरजस्ती पठाएको मात्र हो । अनि गौतमको व्यक्तिगत महत्वाकांक्षाले उत्तिकै काम गरेको छ । सरकारले उनलाई उक्त पदका उम्मेद्वारका लागि पठाउनुअघि अहिलेसम्म उक्त पदमा पुगेका व्यक्तिको पृष्ठभूमी हेर्नु पथ्र्यो । मुलुकमा संविधान बन्यो, निर्वाचित सरकारले मुलुक हाँक्न थाल्यो र राष्ट्रपति डा. रामवरण यादवले आफ्नो उचाई कायम राखे भने उनी तयार हुनसक्छन्, त्यस्तो ओहदाका लागि । यो धेरै परको कुरा हो । अर्को सपना नदेखि हालौं । हो, त्यो उचाईमा पुगेका नेपाली कम छन् । तर गौतम आफ्नो व्यक्तिगत बलबुतामा जसरी युनिसेफको माथिल्लो तहसम्म पुग्न सफल हुनुभएको थियो, त्यसैका आधारमा राष्ट्रसंघमा नेपालको प्रतिनिधित्व हुन्छ भन्ने ठान्नु निर्थक प्रयास सिवाय अरु केही थिएन । उनी युनिसेफको कार्यकारी निर्देशकमा गएपछि नेपालले गौरव गर्‍यो । स्वभाविक हो । अमेरिकी विदेशमन्त्री कोलिन पावेल जाँदा नेपालका परराष्ट्रमन्त्री रामशरण महत (पीएचडी)ले गौतमलाई संघको महासचिव बनाउन जोड गरिदिन एउटा गोप्यपत्र समेत हात लगाएका थिए । गौतमलाई राष्ट्रपति बनाउनै प्रसंग पनि नेपाली राजनीतिमा नउठेका होइनन् । गौतमको उचाईमा नेपाल बढी फुर्केको हो । यो केटाकेटीले मिर्ठाई पाएजस्तो भयो । गौतम गैरआवासिय नेपालीको संस्थामा नेतृत्व दिन लायक हुन् । गौतम के का लागि योग्य होलान् ? उनको यो गौरवशाली ओहदालाई कसरी सदुपयोग गर्न सकिन्छ । यो मन्थनको विषय हुनसक्छ । हतारमा निर्णय गरिहाल्नु अपरिपक्व ठहर्छ । केहि गरिहाल्दा पनि ’नपाउनेले केरा पायो, बोक्रासँगै खायो’ हुने अवस्था आउँछ । यो परिणामपछि गौतम के का लागि ’फिट’ होलान् ? उत्तर छैन । कस्तो जवाफ दिन नै नसकिने परिस्थिति आयो । उनलाई केहि न कामको बनाइएको छ । कतार जस्तो आर्थिक सम्पन्न देशसँग त्यो पनि अरवीयन मुलुकहरुसँगको प्रतिस्पर्धामा गराउनु नै नेपाल सरकारको गल्ती थियो । यसले आउने दिनमा अझ बढी नेपालका लागि अरवीयन मुलुकहरुले हेर्ने दृष्टिकोण साँघुरो घेराभित्र पर्न नसक्ला भन्न सकिदैन । त्यसको प्रत्यक्ष असर कतारमा नेपालको लागि रेमिट्यान्स पठाइरहेका लाखौं नेपालीलाई नपर्ला भन्ने सकिदैन । पहिले आफू मुलुकभित्र बलियो होउ त्यसपछि अन्य क्षेत्रमा हात हाल्नु मुलुकबासीकै लागि हितकर ठहर्छ । अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय कूटनीतिक क्षेत्रमा आफ्नो उम्मेदवारलाई उठाउनु भनेको सामाजिक संजालमार्फत् प्रशान्त तामाङ वा अनुराधा कोइरालालाई एसएमएस वा नेटबाट भोट दिएर जिताउनु जस्तो होइन भन्ने नेपाल सरकार र नेपाली बुद्धिजीवीहरुले बुझ्नु जरुरी छ । यो गल्तीले अरु पटकका लागि समेत शिक्षा लिनु नेपालका लागि श्रेयष्कर देखिन्छ । अनि प्रजातान्त्रिक पद्दतिको समेत अनुशरण नगरिएको अवस्थामा अप्रजान्त्रिक सरकारको प्रतिनिधित्व गर्दै नेपालको एउटा तथाकथित बुद्धिजीवी वर्गको जोडबलमा गौतमलाई जसरी त्यहाँ उभ्याउने काम मात्र गरिएको थियो ।

 I am tired of Gautam-bashing in Nepali media. I was shocked to see how suddenly The Kathmandu Post, Nepali Times and so many other newspapers came up with anti Gautam articles. 

When you look at the identity of writers, you realize one thing: these are just uneducated fools. Does anyone know how educated this Pokhrel guy is? He is giving all these punditry without understanding how things work.

Qatar, by the way, doesn't take any Nepali because it loves us. It has financial interest in hiring us. Those who don't understand economics talk as if one country or the other love Nepal. In Qatar, our children die 2-3 person per day. They work for a few dollars per day in a country that has very rich per capita income even from Arabian standard. Our men , unlike Sri Lankans who seem to be more educated than us and are likely to demand more of their rights, are less troublesome. That's why they are in demand.

Since UN's presidency is 1 year post, with no executive power, there is no point in being afraid of Qatari retribution or some other bullshit. Often, these loony leftists (make no mistakes, those opposing Gautam are also those who are unhappy with his anti Maoists stance) talk about challenging USA and yet their feet tremble when they have to take on Qatar for a post in the UN.

None of us can probably tell one or two name of past UN president, so I don't think this post has any significant value. Gautam tried, and it didn't work out. We should get over it. Those who want to do 'khuchching' to Gautam are just sadist jerks full of schadenfreude:).

Pire! your comments are worth reading. Will surprise you but you are one of very few who has been able to satisfy my thought process since last few yrs. here in Sajha.

Girish is in journalism for so many years,however he did poor judgement in writing special editorial on this topic.I assume he knows the meaning of special editorial.

There was NO reason to ridicule/denigrate/make light of Anuradha Koirala's and Prashant Tamang's respective awards.
This was an unnecessary comparision and a needless act of provocation.

After all, it's not easy to inspire and motivate millions of people -- many of whom do not know you personally -- from around the country and the globe to vote for you.

If you think it's easy, try it for yourself, and see the results!

I concur with Ashu...it is not easy to inspire millions of people...Anuradha Koirala indeed a ture hero..
