I came across this saying of noted Chemist and Professor Emeritus of Chemistry at Harvard University : "The greatest intellectual revolution of the last 40 years may have taken place in Biology. Can anyone be considered educated today who does not understand a little about Molecular Biology??"

Here is my penny's worth of advice: EVERYTHING THAT IS QUOTED DOESN'T NECESSARILY MAKE IT TRUE.

..and just because something hasn't be explained, we don't need to give it a connotation to GOD. if we can accept that, I think we are being educated :).

Nothin is absolute. "Absolute" is a personal thing. Everything is average. Individuals are deviations from this average. Individual are product of education, closeness of average to truth is the product of true education. Therefore, reading writing and speaking what is written in book or told by other is not a true product of education, its only a means, but, how well an individual can interpret what is told by others or documented in paper or media is the measure of his education level. Education lets us have our own identity of being an individual. GP

I forget to define what is truth relative to education. Absolute truth is never known. As average keeps on shifting depending on the level of education of peoples, thus, what was truth yesterday in the mind of peoples of yesterday is different from what we believe today. Well, I believe the level of education is better today, therefore, we much closer to truth as compared to yesterday, but, we still don't know how far "absolute distance between ourselves and truth" we are from the truth. Its really vague, and confusing and waste of time if we try to quantify what absolute truth is. Well, lets try to improve education. Eventually, we will be practically within the range of truth. gp bro, absouluteness is something like science, we know that fire burns plastic, but if somehow earth goes some weird chemical and physical change the fire wont be able to burn plastic..and truth is something like math, where 2 + 2 is always 4..even the world goes through chemical and physical change the product will still remain the same....so it is really easy to figure and its not waste of time :P

Someone who knows himself is confused at the instant of time that he is confused, is really intelligent and educated. Someone who pretends to be well versed infact if he is confused, is not well educated. So, ............. Remember that 2 + 2 = not always 4 , but, its our perception. I consider when something is 4 then, the truth lies between 3.5+ to 4.5- .... this is how education matters. GP

Well, one of my observations is that as you get closer to the truth, the subtlety of the circumstances increases. In Physics, take for exapmle the Theory of Relativity or the veil of Quantum mechanics. When they found out that a particle could be a wave as well and vice versa, this whole business of quantum mechanics evolved. Physics now fundamentally is in a state where probability exceeds knowledge. Now you can't predict what a particle, say an electron will do. It can go up and go down but you can never say for sure. No measuring device actually exists or will exist which can say for sure it will do this or that. If you try to measure it, you will inevitably alter the course of the experiment and if you leave it at that, you can't measure it. So the clsoer it gets to the fundamentals, the farther it strays from intuition. And this is related to thoughts. You yourself cannot predict what thoughts you will have a nanosecond from now. And this explains the mind. Pleasure disappoints, possibility never.

Everything is relative...like Einstein said.....It is so true... For me being educated means..being able to do little things in life without too many mistakes...

JunkieNepali, As you know little, you are less confused. The reason you have less informaion, and that is usable vs unusable ratio is very high. The reciprocal of this ratio is very similar to what we call entropy. You have more information, then, you are confused more. Thats why Nepali smugglers in Nepal make joke that they don't want to their kids to study and be educated. They get more informaiton, and they are confined to only in a small world because what you can do legally is much smaller than what you could do if the law was not there. Thats why educated means, you know consequences much more than an uneducated does, thus your horizon is confined to narrow range. Well, entropy is really interesting thing that you gather more information, you are more confused. JunkieNepali is perfectly right to tell the story and his belive. Thats what peoples say and scared to be educated, because of your high entropy in your mind. ............ Well, one thing for sure, education will make the difference i.e. you can establish your own unique identity that an uneducated person can not. Well, the proverb very well says that a mad person sees the whole world as mad and only he himself is a right person. Uneducated peoples will see the educated peoples more confused, fragile mind.... blah blah blah............. Entropy also tells the same thing, right?. GP

More study more arguing power, scared to use muscles. Kalam le talbar lai jitchha. Semi-educated peoples can not stand arguing, so they finally use Muscle: foul languge and ghatiya sabda and become personalized, then, the arguments end into personal war. But, if you are educated enough, then you are less vulnerable to use foul words. Well, in this forum too some guys: very intelligent, but, the depth education on particular subject is low such that they end up in personal war. Reject ideas not the person, an outcome of education. contains alot of grammer error.. Gp, perception is our sensory experiences with the world, so math is no where a preception rather An Absolute Truth. As defined by most of the psychologists , preception is the mind's ordering of sensory stimuli based on the observer's previous experiences, and how do you mind 2 + 2 a preception. the product between those two varibles is same for me and you, but the same beauty we look at might not be full filling for him. When we talk about preception we cannot miss Kant, who has been a important figure on Preception, "our common understanding of the world is possible because our minds impose a specific structure on our sensations according to an innate, universal pattern." and when talking about Education, education will teach a man what to read, not what to NOT READ. To be a scholar, you need to discover the path of philosophy, till then you are just Educated fool, with you pens open and your egos bursting out. Semi-educated peoples can not stand arguing, so they finally use Muscle: History has proven this false all along, Alexander the great had been educated and was rained with great knowledge, still he slaughtered thousands of lives, why? Becaues, his Morals didnt held him back. Understanding of Moral Principle is far worthier than getting a better education. and talking about Entropy, it has been questioned by Quantum theory, which suggests many possibilities, and that is why science is absoulteness.. Gurl Interupted, i was being ironic...its not easy to think outside of the material world and define.. but you have also given an example of absoluteness...and you have BASHED WOMAN GENDER BY DOING AN HONEST MISTAKE...God, cannot be considered him or her, god is a creator, if we figure who God is, then we have solved all the possible problems that puzzle us.. so GOD is not a HIM... and about arguing, more arguing creates nothing but more arguments, we should not study philosophy by arguing rather by understanding and applying the theory, and then agreeing or disagreeing with it. Sake of arguing is waste of TiME.. passinthru, you are absolutely right " Pleasure disappoints, possibility never."
