yeah there are lots of nepalese family living in china.. i am based in Beijing..
although china has started to giver permanent residence permits i heard its not that easy to get one... so most of us have temp residence permit.

.. any help needed?

my dad lives in hong kong but he has special privilage kinda a card which is given to expacts or business man by chinese goverment. Depends on which part of China you are talking about. I have heard of lot of Nepali families in the South, but as you move north, nepalis are rare. Not many Nepalese in Beijing - Dong Bei (Shenyang, Heilongjiang, Liao ning.etc.) area. Maybe its because of the weather- Beijing and the northern areas tend to get really cold. If you are talking about students, then in Tianjin you have a 100+ nepali students studying medicine.
Beijing does not have many nepalis, maybe altogether 50-60 (including the people who work for the embassy and their family members).

Xian, Henan (zhengzhou), Sichuan (chongqing) and Shanghai have big Nepali communities. So if you are looking for Nepali community/families you should ask people in those places.

Also if you have a technical degree or if you gaduated from good Chinese university/college, then it should be easier to get the residence permit. Its not that difficult. Your danwei (work) will take care of that.

I heard a lot of rumors around that china is not a safe place. (gunda gardi daaku dakera etc?!?!)

But been to shenzhen Ghunzhau and two more other places i can't write, cant even pronounce but the places was OK.

The purpose of asking thses infos. to you guys bcoz one of my senior cousin is planning to buy an house in China and she has four kids., she wants to completely moved from Nepal for the time being.. in this case how can she do this? How can i help my cousin???

i don't know much about other places, but Beijing Shanghai and other big cities are very very safe. i have been living here for more than 7 yrs and i haven't heard any of my fren being robed, bothered , harassed .. i once heard an incident where nepalese student got beaten up by chinese gang in a bar in small city, heard all of them were drunk.. don't know the real cause of it... but its very very rare.
wow... buying a real state in china might be pretty expensive. a 300 sq m, house( not furnished) 60mins drive from centre of beijing, shanghai will cost more than 300,000US$. thats very very expensive (atleast for me)
and moving with family ,.. Language will be one big problem and schools for childs will be another. one must know chinese language to get enrolled into government schools. international school .. too expensive. 1500US $/month. until an unless your cousin works for multinational company. these companies normally provide housing, education for 2 child, insurance and other allowances.

I am talking mainly Beijing and shanghai. Things should be lot cheaper in smaller cities.

Hello Web i got the info from my coworker who is HK chinese basically but has holiday house back in China.

Few month back when we were having our company annual dinner party one of our coworker advise me to buy an house in China. (well ofcourse i m not ready yet) But as per they were saying the cost for 3 bedrooms cost around HK$100,000 in Shenzhen?!?! i m not so sure about the cost in Shanghai & Beijing since both of those area fully developed these days.

But the main point here is IF they bought a house there how can they apply a visa and wht sort of visa will they get? Need to destroy Nepalese passport?? (Like IF i want to get HKSAR passport i need to destroy my Nepalese passport which i did not agree to do)

I know language is one of the problem n they should take it as challenge and LEARN. Moving one country to another never is easy.

They would need a employment letter from a chinese company to apply for visa and then for temp residence permit (normally for 1~4 yrs) or be a student for student Visa. its not hard to get either one ..

to my understanding they will never get chinese passport. i don't think any foreigner can ever get one...... someone please correct me if i am wrong

100,000HK$ is pretty good bargin for 3 bed room apartment in Shenzhen..

i presume you can find lots of english speaking locals in HK... but thats not the case in mainland china.. hardly anyone speaks english here although its far better than some 5~8yrs back but still pretty tough for new commers... even then all the best...

Here's my quick comments:

It is possible to get a Chinese citizenship. Many foreigners have Chinese citizenship now. If you buy a house/apartment in China, it won't be hard for you to extend your visa. Your company can help you with the paperwork.

You will get a resident visa/working visa. Visa renewal in China is very easy. You just have to go to the police station (gong an ju) and pay the 400 Yuan charge.

If you are applying for the citizenship, then of course you have to give up your Nepali citizenship. China and Nepal, as far as I know do not allow dual citizenship. However, China is one of the most open societies in the world, in many respects, its more welcoming to foreigners than the US or Japan, Korea and other East/South East Asian nations. It has been like this since the 7th/8th century. If you speak the language, then you will feel more welcome, however, even if you don't, you won't feel an outsider.

Apartments are expensive in Beijing. Its more expensive than in Shenzhen and Shanghai. Recently Beijing was ranked one of the most expensive cities to live in (if you are a foreigner working for a multinational company, that is).

Re: Chinese, it is not that difficult. You can manage. It takes some time though. Like Web said, it will be difficult at first, but with time, patinece and practice, you will master the language like so many others before you have done.
