A 52-year-old woman was paraded naked in a Nepal village and gang raped apparently as punishment over her son's romance, news reports said on Monday.

The woman, a resident of Bagada village in Mahottari district in the terai plains, was stripped by a group of about 30 men, mostly from the Yadav community, and paraded before villagers on Sunday, the Himalayan Times daily reported.

The woman, who has not been named, was subjected to further trauma with members of the group raping her, apparently to teach her family a lesson for her son's conduct.

The son had fallen in love with the daughter of one of the assailants, the daily said. There was no detail if the son had harassed the girl.

Two men have been arrested, the daily said, quoting the local police authorities.

The atrocity occurred on the same day that Nepal's Deputy Prime Minister KP Oli, who is also the foreign minister, announced the government's plans in parliament in the capital.

The policies give priority to ending the decade-old violence caused by the Maoist insurgency and establishing sustainable peace.

The government has pledged to amend laws discriminating against women and make new laws that promote gender equality.

Though women form over 50 per cent of Nepal's current 28 million population, due to the feudal society, they are discriminated against in their families, work places and even in the government.

I won’t be surprised if the culprits get away with it. And it will not be the first time.
The one thing I fail to comprehend is that what other people were doing while the incident was taking place. Well the police as their tendency always arrive after the crime takes place. But I would think that the other people (the locals) could have stopped it from happening. What were they doing? Watching !!! or may be they locked themselves inside their house and thought “ well it is none of my business” Sick Sick.. just plain Sick.. Thinking about this is making me really angry……

More than cops, every woman in that community should have grabbed their "hasiaya" and run towards those men.
