12/07/06 - 19/07/06 People's King ! BY PUSHPA R PRADHAN At a time when the King restored parliament and the seven-party-alliance (SPA) government with the intention to make the King powerless did not even give the traditional holiday on the occasion of the King’s birthday, thousands of people spontaneously went to the Royal Palace to extend birthday greetings to His Majesty King Gyanendra on the occasion of HM’s 60th auspicious birthday. The government announced that it would not mark the birthday of the Head of the State and also cancelled government holiday on that day. But the people didn’t listen to the ‘popular SPA' government, which boasts of holding the people’s mandate. UNEXPECTED GATHERING As the government had announced for not observing the birthday, there was no army and police parade and no official procession of the civil servants. Thus, the Royal Palace security had expected less people to visit the Palace. Unexpectedly, people started to gather at Tundikhel open theatre by 9 O’clock in the morning. At around 11 AM the main gate of the Royal Palace was opened and the people’s procession started to enter into the Palace. One can assume the number of people in the crowd, as it took three to five hours to reach the dais in front of the King, where they could extend their greetings. It became very difficult to manage the crowd by the Royal Palace security personnel. The King, while receiving sagun, tika, naivedhs, garlands, khadas and flowers offered by different communities, had to stand there till 5 PM. These people were not brought to Kathmandu like during the protest movement, when the political parties were bringing people either by paying money or by forcing or threatening them. The crowd this year was two times more than that was present last year, a highly placed security source revealed. It is noteworthy to mention that clad in daura-surwal and coat or shirt-pant or female folk in Saree in a summer day is really a challenge, but the people didn’t care about the summer climate while marking the King’s birthday. MEDIA DOWNPLAY The local media, especially known to be guided and funded by the foreign elements, tried to hide the fact that such a large number of people had attended the King’s birthday ceremony. It seems, they were ashamed from their continuous propaganda that the King was unpopular among the people. Indeed, pro-republic local as well as foreign media were involved in defaming the King. These media, so far, became successful to project the King abroad as an anti-democratic, anti-people and a dictator, however, the gathering at the Royal Palace on 7 July proved these allegations were false. SILENT MESSAGE The gathering of the people at the Royal Palace gives a silent message to the international community as well as the domestic political forces that the people are still with the King. Any artificial barrier created by the political forces won’t stop the people to pay respect to their King. Nepal holds a unique tradition which says that the king is the patron of the people. The people have demonstrated their inner feeling and respect to the King at a time when the SPA government was trying to abduct the King’s prerogatives by violating the rule of law. The SPA government is playing foul. In the name of democracy (loktantra), they are demonstrating mobocracy by discarding the fresh people’s mandate.

Babu is suffering from Inferiority Complex and he will also admit it. I am sure he does not have a fake degree though he studied from India but activities and ideologies are of a rebellion period during which the world was seeing movements. It makes anyone laugh to see a terrorist who is responsible for more than hundred thousands of lives talking democratic. I know he is not a human and anyone shwoing this inhuman act deserve to be rooted out from this planet so that even his own grand-children can sleep peacefully and he will not have to hear that his daughter was gang raped and son was killed in an encounter. He is responsible of all the destruction of Nepal, words are less to describe. You have put the country back for about 500 years. Now another group will evolve to get freedom from you like the world used to get in early 1900's. How can you dare to change the history? Has communism worked out in this world? In US Communism is defined as the worst communicable disease. I am giving you this advice Babu: Commit Suicide: Maybe you will get a chance to repent.

Then we will see what majority of nepali believe in .let people think for themselves for once at least!!!I will accept the verdict of Nepalese people decide to remove king but just by manipulation of some selfish power hungry leader i don't think it is much democratic. certainly imu, nothing is more democratic than referendum. i, for one, am up for it too. but if you are thinking that monarchy may survive from referendum then i am afraid you are wrong my friend. monarchy is looking down the barrel. and there is ABSOLUTELY nothing that can save them. royalists are trying there best to push the CA's date and/or if possible, let it not happen at all. unless something happens miraculously, monarchy is about to be obsolete in nepal. i am sorry if i may sound judgmental, but that's the truth. what do you think? Well loote, I really don't care Monarachy survives in Nepal or not. But i just want people (regular people) to have their individual vote rather than representative democracy.I am all for whatever the verdict. U think monarchy is not going to survive i think the opposite. just because Kantipur writes it or few maoist leaders manipulates people doesn't mean king is not going to survive. we will know only if there is refrendum. Then why the SPAM is not going for that ,why CA?lets have refrendum along with CA. ALso in the issue of Hinduism.MAjority rules in democracy.. thats how demoracy works call it aflaw in democracy but has worke so far in the world .

Talking about logic, think about this: If referendum is to be held to ask the Nepalese people whether to keep the King or not, it would be better for SPA and Maoists to do it as soon as possible. Coz King has become quite defamed recently. But if such referendum is to be held later in future, one thing is sure, People may choose the King. Coz by then People will be sick of SPA and Maoists!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So that's why SPA and Maoists don;t want Referndum in this one. So it's not what People want right now, it;s what these parties want. I don't think currently people have much say in the political game. People have been doomed.

This is the politics of SPAM .. defame king as much as possible.. some true mostly exaggerated .. i see what is going on in nepal..no body even talks about the corruption done by SPA leaders, infact corrupte leaders are realeased is this why people dies for ???? no body talks about autocratic activities of Maoist..There is one single ..punch bag.and bali ko boka ... king.. whatever king..lauda kanda king.. whatever. i don't say he didn't but lets put thing side by side and think in moral ground not in who did what much? Think in moral ground!!!!!.ARE SPAM so morally right people than king???If not worse they are the same . I have full confidence in this that King will survive ..This is what i think .. you can think whatever you like..there are millions who praised king take over!!!!where are they???who are they?? same nepali right??

well, i am not saying this based upon what i read from kantipur or other news portals for that matter. to my view, april revolution was the decisive factor. it was a movement by the people and for the people. forget spam, but local people from within 100 km radius from ktm came and particiapted. it was their call. they want the monarchy to give away. forget spa, but even maoists were up for CA and its verdict, but it was common people like us who initiated and mobilzed the movement. I don't know about SPA, but maoists have already examined people's pulse. just a food for thought. about 60% of nepalese population are under 25 yrs of age. and that's quite a lot. i don't think youth will go for monarchy if there is a referendum. it will be majorly for royalists benefit if they can push and if possible not let refrendum to happen. SPA are still skeptical about the existence of monarchy. they are short of confidence, big time. they think that if monarchy does not exist tomorrow, then nepal will be a communist republic led by maoists, by default. The present govt is fascilitating Maoist steps just to stay in power and gulp as much money as possible till they are in power. It is said that they all have their wealth transferred and visas ready to leave the country once everything is doomed. This is a true news from a very reliable news source. People in the govt themselves are sure it will not last. Ultimately it will go to the Maoists. The maoists are trying to gain sympathy of people in another dirty way nowadays. They are trying to divide Nepal according to ethnicity. Today's annapurna post writes about yesterday's Prachanda's statement in which he has said they will allow Newars to rule kathmandu and set up a newar ruled valley. He talked about "newar swayatta pradesh". This bastard is using ethnic card in dividing Nepal.
