I use voip discount from Nepal to call many free destinations they have. They have limitations of 30 free calls b4 you buy any credit, but just change user name and you have another 30 free calls. Hope this helps. Here is the link http://www.freecall.com/en/index.html

First of all, VOIP is illegal in Nepal. I don't understand why NTC (NTA) is against the technology. Second, for broadband phone service like vonage, it require high speed internet and internet quality is very poor in Nepal. Even so called broad band is just broad band by name. I tried to use vonage from Nepal using Wlink broadband but internet speed is very poor. Do not use Worldlink broadband, worldlink is just cheating by saying its broadband. Their upload speed is normally just 16KBPS which is slower than dialup. So, the main problem is internet connection. So, if you can find any good broadband service provider in Nepal then vonage will work. I gave up because internet service wasn't good enough unless you want to pay high bill for those dedicated broadband service.

My parents use VOIP to call abroad from Nepal. Costs around Rs.6 per minute. It is not a Vonage service. They just have an application set up in their laptop. With the headset, the calls are clearer than when using the calling card. I understand it is also possible to converse via Yahoo and MSN instant messaging service, though I have not used it yet. Hope this helps.
