I know Sourav Da is one of the modern great....a inspirational leader and a comback king....
The Prince of Calcutta showed how to win the world...... how a leader should be......
I still remember him swinging his shirt at Ovel... no other Indian would do it...
A great ambassador of the game......
I will miss his hook shot on off side for a six.......

He should have retired himself long before ( before dropped from team India). However, this is the right time to go with a good memorable score in his name. Good luck!

Cricket and it's fan will miss him. Even though Sachin is my fav, I still think that Ganguly was one of the best batsman India has produce.

I always like him in the game,he was a good player and good entertainer.I have seen him in the crease from the day I start watching cricket and enjoying the game.There are very few lefty good batsman who can play with such ease.I would love to see him in the game anytime and play some nice knock.Ganguly and Sachin were the best opening batsman for India ever.The game itself will miss dada a.k.a prince of calcutta a.k.a king of sarjaha a.k.a ganguly all the time and goodluck for him for rest of his life and fourth upcoming test vs aus.

people say ganguly is the second after GOD for beautiful front and square drives.i love to watch such amazing shots from ganguly's bat.unfortunately this will be the last time.......

i think i would like to remember him for his lofted long-off/ long-on sixes in particular. as a captain, he was not bad deal for india.

Wow, as soon as ganguly is about to retire he becomes great. The fact is ganguly never was great. He is not tendulakr or Dravid. Just an average player.

When people said FAV 4. They were actually pulling down tendulkar and Dravid couple of notches and pulling Ganguly up couple of notches to put on the same league as Sachin, Dravid, Laxman and Ganguly. His behaviour was never good. Suspended, fined many times. Its good that he is going.

WE DO NOT speak ill of the dead or the recently retired; in fact we swing the other way and call them ‘great’ without embarrassment. Ever since he announced his retirement, Sourav Ganguly has been elevated to greatness, but the fact is he gained by association. If Sachin Tendulkar had to be brought down a couple of notches to fit him into the so-called ‘Fab Four’ group, then Ganguly had to be pushed up a couple to settle alongside Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman.

Ganguly was not a great player, but he was a significant one in the context of Indian cricket as its most successful Test captain. Great players are not necessarily significant, nor significant players necessarily great. Barry Richards is an example of the former while Arjuna Ranatunga is an obvious example of the latter.

In the early 1990s, two players emerged from contrasting backgrounds. In Kolkata, Ganguly, born in the lap of luxury (even the silver spoon in his mouth was actually gold) began to serve notice. Across the country in Mumbai, born the same year, Vinod Kambli lived in a slum, struggled for existence and was beginning to discover that cricket could be a way out of the poverty. What they had in common was the ability to bat left-handed.

At that stage, any self-respecting sociologist would have told you who would be the bigger success — Kambli — arguing, “The slum boy has the greater hunger, more desperation and the crying need to climb out of his circumstances; the rich lad is a spoilt brat, too used to having everything drop into his lap and will disappear very soon.”

Yet, while Kambli is virtually forgotten today (despite making double centuries in successive Tests, he is best known as Tendulkar’s school friend), Ganguly, who made his Test debut three seasons later, played over 100 Tests and finished as one of the finest batsmen ever in one-day cricket. And, surprisingly, for one with a reputation for selfishness and inability to see beyond the tip of his Mercedes, a captain successful both statistically and psychologically.

Such contradictions have been a guiding force in Ganguly’s life. It is a Ganguly trait to overturn comfortable, preconceived notions of what ought to be. He took the clichés of the sport and reshaped them. If cricket was a gentleman’s game, he delighted in, metaphorically, drawing a false beard on its face or tweaking its nose. If turning the other cheek was expected of those who were slapped, he was happy to show the other cheek, but not the one on his face.

he was one of the best captains that india had.....the present breed of cricketers, with the kind of aggressiveness they show, owe a lot of this aggressiveness to ganguly....bye bye dada,....

I always disliked him. He was more of a distraction and was no way near Tendulkar and Dravid.

Ganguly is not the best among the Fab Four, everyone will accept that. He is not as naturally gifted as Tendulkar, nor technically sound as Dravid nor an inning builder like Laman, but still he succeed. This attribute makes him even better than those players. He is the one who have been dropped the most times in his carrrer among those "Fab Four". He made his comeback everytime and not with courtesy of anyone, but just because of his cricketing ability. He is a work horse, who knows the hard work will bring success. His hard work didnot mean finding another way to success  but improvisation of his own limited ability. Despite his background, he knew what it takes to be a successful man. He was cocky against the cocky Aussies and bull against the fighter Pakistanis. He dealt with how the individual opponent needed to be dealt with.

Great player with limited ability and great inspirational quality.

Dada out in a duck in the first ball of his final test...what a tragedy

One single inning cannot define how good is someone. Bradman was out for a duck too.. but still he is the best player cricket ever got.... Dada have played many memorable innings....
I would like to see daa bowling a few overs tomorrow... His bowling isnt great but being a blind fan, I would like to see him bowling.. may be a wicket at the cause....

one of the finest captains ever to have played the game. you will be remembered as that even though u were  the finest left handed batsmen  India produced.

ganguly was good when he was at his best. but recently especially on or after world cup 2003 his form has gone down a lot. it would be better had he retired after world cup 2003. he would have retired in high note. after 2003 in my  opinion (believe me i am a great fan of india) was a pain in a ass or more to say waste of other good talent. i wish him good luck for his future.
