You forgot to put /s for satire. This song is deplorable (I think the video is worse) but this style of music was what I heard a lot in kathmandu last time I went there (a year back). They all sounded same and there was a typical nasal tone in male voice and very low pitch sound in female's. What style of music is this? You will say Lok geet, but those were not the Lok-geet that I heard growing up (well okay, I grew up in KTM but I did hear a fair share of folk songs). Is it from certain part of the country?

Totally agree with what Kiddo mentioned. I felt I was watching poor man's Madhuri Dixit in that song. If this song is supppse to restore my faith in Nepalese music I am better off being a Bangladeshi. Not a folk song, but something like this would restore my Neoali pride.

Lok geet was once completely dead. (when Nepali music industry was overwhelmed with pop singers) . For example when, from the time of sanjaya shrestha, bhim tuladhar etc to the time when kalind band, axe band, axis band, nepathya etc were a big hit, we could hardly hear any nepali folk songs. Then there came the time when Ram Prasad Khanal started a program in Nepal TV (lok dohori or something). It used to air once a week in the evening. That was what resurrected nepali folk music. But, with its resurrection, the folk music was HIGHLY commodified. Lets call it second generation of folk music. Singers, musicians just see money in folk music rather seeing atleast a little bit of folk culture in it and reviving the old style. Now they realize "that kind" of music sells, they just keep on making similar music. Anyway, thats my view on the posted video. And, not that it matters, not a big deal either, but kiddo bro केटिहरुको तिखो स्वर = high pitch, not low pitch. just thought would let you know . Thank you behoove bro, thats one of my all time fav.

Thahachaena and Behoove's posts are the ones I identified as lok-geet. Whatever is sung by the "folks" is a folk-song, I guess, but the new ones springing up these days are surely not the ones I used to hear is all I am saying. Fuel Tank, not sure who Ram Prasad Khanal is; you might be right. But I think more than the producer it was the consumer who fueled the growth of recent surge of these types of songs. If it becomes a hit in Kathmandu and similar cities, it is declared hit in Nepal. Now, Kathmandu and similar cities is flooded with people all over from Nepal these days. Which I guess is a good thing, but with that comes many cultural/economical and social change; one of those change affected the type of music favored in Nepal. With the huge influx of our folks from all over the country to the cities, they brought these new genre of music; new only to Kathmandu of course. Yes you're right, I meant to say high pitch.

I give a shit about most of the modern songs. I still search 'old Nepali songs' in Youtube and listen to Danny's and Aruna Lama's songs. And few days ago, I think it was Fuel Tank who gave me the link to RVL's classic Nepali song's link. My life has been easier since then. (Though buffering seems to take quite some time)
