I am concerned about the status of my wife since I am leaving for BCT in about a month. My wife has a F2 status and she will be in grey area as soon as I leave for BCT.
Has any one been in this situation? I would like to know if I need to change my wife's status to F1 before I leave or is it ok to let her stay in grey area while I file for green card? Thanks.

I wouldn't say it's a grey area cuz she is your dependent. So once u take the oath ceremony she just need to file the i130. Seen few of my friends been in the same situation so wouldn't freak out about it. Good luck on ur Bct.

I wasn't too much worried before but some where I saw a DHS fact sheet which states that dependents has to either leave country or change status once F1 ships to BCT. My recruiter never mentioned any thing about it and even I haven't heard any one's dependent leaving country or changing status whatsoever.
Just want to be on a safe side while I still have time. Thanks Ronaldo7 for the quick response.

definitely i am no expert on the immigration law.. i was just stating the things i have seen and the things i know. It never hurts to ask others so if i were u i would def talk to recruiter about it once..i am sure they don't know half the things about immigration but they might have an insight on it. If u don't wan to take chances why don't you let her join some school for just a couple of months. it can be any kind of school like language school u know just to be in f1

Yes like you said I definitely have an option for joining school. But I would not consider it unless its absolute necessary. The problem with school is that It's not cheap and there isn't any language school close by which issue I-20. Any ways thanks for your input Ronaldo7.
