Dear San, Can you help us set up a TSUNAMI RELIEF FUND? Dear friends, words can't describe the devastation. Actions can help and prayers can reach those who need our support.

yes guys, really good idea but, I dont thnk sajha can even come with 1 percent of help needed for this devastation, but hey nothing sud hold us on doing good, so if you guys want to contribute thru sajha thats fine, but www.redcross.org has a online contibution center where you can contibute and redcross can make a big big difference on these international disasters.

Confused, I had a similiar idea in mind: To open a Sajha community fund after San responds (I did get a chance to talk to him briefly) and then give the total amount to a bigger organization. The concept is to start and continue the drive through the joint efforts of Sajhaites. It has been successful before, why not now. Login, I think we posted at the same time last night. :)

The natural disaster that has struck countries like Sri Lanka, Indonesia and India recently is truely a tragedy of epic proportions with death tolls up to 60,000. The survivors are in need of serious assistance in order to cope with basic neccessities and to deal with rampant diseases and starvation. Many International organizations have stepped up to join the efforts to provide support in the disaster striken areas. As citizens of the world, we, the Nepali Communities need to show and provide our support in any ways possible. I have set up an online donation link, through which concerned individuals can make a payment. After two weeks all the donations will be deposited to one of the International Organizations (to be decided) as a donation from 'Nepali community at sajha.com'.

I think Confused Bro got confused with the message. I don't think the posters here are pledging to make a difference with their few bucks in such a colossal scale of devastation and reportedly the biggest relief operation of the history. It is simply a matter of gesture, symbolic of our honor to the sufferer of this nature's destruction. At a serious level, this is our way to express our sorrow, our own way to put our faith aside and keep safe from being eroded- let's say, a creative way to keep ourselves sane, positive, hopeful and humane. It's not about the number of dollars at all. It's like a collective prayer. A Sajha relief fund will serve the purpose better, in my humble opinion.

Any thought and work towards a noble cause deserves applause. My applause to all!! San, for your consideration , " Association of India's development" is also one great organization that we could donate to.

It was truly a disaster of an unfathomable magnitude. I hope some or all of us are able and willing to help the victims in any way possible. Given the urgent need RIGHT now, I think the better idea would have been to urge Sajhaites to donate directly to various relief agencies, rather than having to wait for donations into Sajha fund and then transfering it to other organizations. Nevertheless, since the account has now already been created, I hope many of us will have a heart to feel for the victims and donate whatever one can to the fund. I am sure the relief agencies will be needing fiancial donations well into the future. As for myself, I have already given to OXFAM, a British-based international relief agency. They have a link in their homepage for those who wish to make donations specifically for the Asian Tsunami disaster. (www.oxfam.org) Along with the Red Cross International and various UN agencies, I think there are dozens of other smaller NGOs that are also looking forward to hearing from us with cash. I pray for the victimized souls, both dead and alive.

I agree with Poonte. The sooner we all help, the better the impact so it would be faster to donate to Organizations like the International Red Cross Society or The Unicef. If San could list the links of those organizations, that'd be great. Also, another way we we can help in a great deal is: If we can talk to our Local Grocery Stores and request for those huge donation boxes to be kept in their entrances (just like they do during Christmas time) so that people can donate food and clothes, this would be tremendously helpful. *********************************************************** It is amazing to know that India has been the largest contributor so far for the Tsunami Victims.
