Yes, I have run into many... no, make that some... some Nepalis who say they do not like hanging out with other Nepalis and try their best to stay away. I have never understood what the reason could be?

You might not get along with one or few Nepalis. But would you not get along with the whole Nepali community?

Could it be that something is wrong with you rather than the community? I think that would be more likely.

I, for one, love hanging out with Nepalis. Daal bhaat khaadai gau-ghar ko dukha-sukha ko kura garnu ko ananda nai arko. I have non-Nepali friends, but I feel certain kinship with Nepalis that I do not feel with them.

We have few numbers of nepalase in pittsburgh and they don't care about anyone. It has been already more than 4 months i have not even seen single nepali.

You should better be making clear what actually NEPALI MENTALITY is. There is nothing like brand name as such. Personal issues with friends or relatives can not be generalized. If its about the personal issues, may be I hate my own brother or father but when I am in trouble, these are the people in the frontline to get me out of.

During my initial days in USA, I got help and support enough from the Nepalis of my community. Now, I would like to do my best to the needful. There are some people ( probably they think they are from priviledge class or different blood) who ignore or act funny but its their problem and they are not the representative of Nepali community.

Nepali's back biting!! Its a human character in general. There are this kind of characters in all races, nationalities and groups. Don't say that there are not back-biting people in other communities.

What I admit about Nepali community is that we can not stop talking about politics!!

We should think about what we can give to our community rather than what we can get from the community.

Can't say all nepalese community in America sucks but with personal experience the bigger city you go , the more the nepalese - more division and more selfishness, arrogance and like attributes.
I have seen the best nepalese communities and the worst.But Nepali community overall in America sucks won't be correct.
One example , Look at SAJHA COMMUNITY- mostly people from abroad and more from US.We help each other.We care.

......the ones who are successful by having corporate jobs, or have mulitple businesses, houses nice cars , mostly succesfull Nepalese who have kinda live the American dream or the ones who still works at minimum wages at restaurants , gas stations and the struggling ones??????????.
I see the ones who are struggling to be the ones always complaining about others success. In Nepali gatherings there are the richer successfull nepalese and then there are the struggling ones. Students fall under the struggling ones because they have to support their education BUT when they graduate they seperate from the struggling and join the elite successfull group and then reap their hard earned life of success. Now there are those who came here a long time ago and over stayed their visas and are not educated enough to get out of the rot of hardship that comes along with their status. Then there are the ones who expect to live their life exactly like it was in Nepal, drink and party gossip and bragg of being here in the US. they expect everyone to pour hard ship infront of everyone and kinda join the legpulling group, somekind of unmentioned club. Being in America gives some Nepalese a pride itself and they display it infront of others in gatherings but next day he or she goes back to the same work routine everyone here goes back to. If you are successfull and you drive a nice car and live in a grand house you are automatically bragging so you will be disliked by the rest. So I dont know how it works........I find everyone in America are nice people but situation they are and where others are in comparrision to them leads to this mess of back stabbing false rumor spreading few bunch.

How many Nepalis are there in Dallas? From what I read here, it seems there are so many Nepalis over there that, as one poster put it in another thread, if one is to spit out of the window, most likely that spit will land on a Nepali's head.

And why is Dallas's Nepali community so reviled?

I still do not buy the argument that Nepali community as a whole suck ass. Certainly there are some bad, ugly, boring, back-biting Nepali persons. But Nepalis in general are good.

When you are an immigrant, obviously you are in that upwardly mobile social ladder. You are accumulating knowledge and wealth in your pursuit of happiness. And I think it is natural that you should look over shoulder and see how other folks in similar situation are doing. Nothing wrong with that.

Nothing wrong, unless you are actively engaged in an endeavour to sabotage other person's well being. I think this happens much less and are isolated cases. Therefore, the state of Nepali communities in the US is good.

while not 100% may suck, but majority of the nepali communities do suck. much of these so call communities are managed by old folks who are not open minded and who have same old traditional mentality back home, and hence tend to trash unnecessary sort of rules or expect same from eveyone softa stereotying, and that's why there's often conflict. hence these communities are not strong, they become active during one or two days in a year when there is some program, means of income for these folks or organizers. furthermore, these folks are not creative to come of with new ideas to attract new members and strenthen the whole community. they will take the so called community with them.
Bottomline is nepali community sucks.

There are good and bad people in every community. Are Nepalis a little be more adept at the "leg-pulling" art? I think so. But it would be unfair to say that the Nepali community sucks. What sucks is the way these Nepali organizations are run with no accountability like our very own political parties.
