Hi guys, I am going to start my MS at University of Nebraska at Omaha. I am pretty new there and would like to know more about the area, the campus community and what area near UNO would be better to commute to school and in terms of good neighborhood. Please share your experience about UNO or the place if you know about. Thank you!
Crackboy, for Civil Engineering University of Nebraska-Lincoln is better. There is a small Nepalese Student's committee. You may want to contact them for further details. Here is Nepalese Students Association (NSA UNL) URL http://www.unl.edu/nsaunl/buddha/
I personally know couple of friends doing their PhD there in Civil engineering. They are doing great.
Thank you guys sharing your views and perspectives. Chusey ji, its good 2 know you through hami sabaiko sajha. can u pls. contact me at kbhanki@yahoo.com. Thanks!!!

ur one heck of a smart guy..if ur coming for Computer Science then there must be butt crack in ur mind ( i had mine sadly) I understand the meaning but my question is why do youthink so?
UNO is a nice community...few Nepali but still nice..college is good...MIS program is really good..
try to confirm your scholarship before coming to UNO otherwise u might be screwed up if u have to pay the full tution..apply for college jobs before coming to Omaha...
there are apartments right across the street from UNO or u can opt to live a couple of miles away at reasonable price.. and one more thing be prepared for the crappiest weather..snows a lot in winter, humid, hot summer and windy as hell at times..
intelligent_ choices ji, thank you very much. Your info is highly helpful. I contacted the Int'l admission advisor about the UNO advantage schp/new Int'l schp, they say that its not guarenteed even if the candidate meets the requirement mentioned. And do you have any idea about when do they usually make decison on it like before they send admission materials or after they I-20.I am just confused with their policy. If you know pls. let me know.. thanks again.
U will be confirmed abt the scholarship only after u get your I-20..they did the same thing to me too..i don't know when they make decisions..but it will be after u get enrolled ..the best thing would be to ask somebody in ur department..they will have idea abt the funds available and ur chances of getting it...keep in mind that as of recently funds at the school have been not been adequate..the best person to ask would be Subu , I guess

If you get an RA position, you will get stipend of 1300 to 1600 monthly depending upon the type of research and faculty you work with. You need to pay tuition of 800-1000 USD per semester ( engineering department charge some technology fee, costlier unlike other department). In Lincoln, monthly average expenses for us is around 500USD, provided that you share apartment. For further information, send email to nsaunl@unlnotes.unl.edu
I think its easier to find research assistant position in Lincoln as compared to Omaha in the engineering field! You may want to explore further on your own.
