Bro. Ke kura garya yaar? SS use garne, nagarne, thats related to Tax ( IRS ). As long as you have a valid Visa and you're enrolled in a college/uni, you're good to go. I've already gone to Nepal twice and like you, I've used my SS to work off campus too. Spent two summers in Estes Park yaar.

Don't worry and good luck!

. Since you mentioned that you are now in Community college, I am guessing that when you first arrived in the US, you got the visa by using some other "better" university's I-20. If you then transferred to a community college from your original university, then your visa is "technically" not valid.

If you still have the previous unexpired visa, then you can still take your chances and go visit Nepal. BUT, if they stop you at the airport in the US on your return, they have the authority to ask you to show your I-20, then you are in big trouble.

Every time an international student wants to travel to Nepal, they have to get their I-20 signed by the International Office personnel. If the immigration officer in the US airport notices that your visa is issued to your previous university, but your most current signed I-20 that you are carrying is from a community college, then this disparity will allow him to stop you from entering the US. They will put you on a plane back to Nepal right there from the airport.

Be very careful. Do you really have to go back?

Don't worry as long as your visa is valid and you are currently going to college. It does not matter which college you first atten in US and which college you are currently enrolled or issued you I 20.

Precaution is better than cure.

One gentleman was seeking help desperately who is H1B status , but  his returning visa was not granted. But there is a saying " no risk no gain.

Life is not risk free.

Theoretically, you would not have an issue because you are enrolled in a community college. That's 100% correct statement.

But no one travels risk free considering how ignorant, hostile and intellectually challanged those immigration/customs officers can be in the US Airports.

You can go without worrying anything. In a normal circumstance, you will not get into trouble at all.

Mickthesick, can i ask you with what experience are you claming that he'll be deported from the port of entry if he went to Nepal? do you have any evidence or credibility on what you are trying to establish? sometimes, it's a matter of life and death, sometimes it's just for pleasure but we do need to go home in student status. you made a very clear and confident claim about what will happen. do you work for Uscis of are you a Dso?

. Alright, guys. I don't think you need to be offensive and call people names. From the few offensive remarks made against me, I realize that my answer might have touched some nerves. I apologize for that. I was not trying to scare anyone.

My answer was based on what I was told by a friend of mine. He came to a university in Maryland, and later transferred to a community college. He also decided to go back to Nepal, just like gauleketo. When he went to his international advisor, he was told that he might face problems due to the visa being in the previous university's name, and his I-20 being in his current community college's name.

I never said you should not travel at all. All I said was that it was risky because immigration officers in the airports in the US have the authority to stop students and ask them to show an I-20. They look for the signature of the International Office advisor in the last page of your I-20. That signature is essentially there to prove to the DHS that the advisor approves your travel, and to prove that you in fact attend that community college. But, the immigration officer then may deny you entry because your visa is not for the community college. I did not make up these things. This is what the advisor told my friend.

I did not say this to scare anyone. And, I have not experienced this myself. I was only relaying the information that I learned from my friend in Maryland who had to face the same choices. I was only trying to help.

mickthesick, i was also not trying to humiliate you but the thing you said is very very very rare. I know more than 20 friends who are studying in community college and has been Nepal . Few are still in Nepal with semester break , they came to University and transfer to community college.

My one friend live in NY and work using SSN , studying in Language Center and  he went nepal last year and came without a question in immigration. How you take it?

Mickthestick, I'd urge you to speak off a first hand experience instead of making some ridiculous comments about something that you know fk all about.

More than 1,000 Nepalese who've transferred to different colleges in Texas ( community of course ) visit Nepal and return back without any problems. Please don't create a state of skepticism and paranoia because your friend said something.

Tell you what. One of my friends told me that the Chinese ghost ( the hoax that floated around in every corner of Kathmandu and the world 5 years back ) was actually a ghost that his brother's best friend captured on Camera. What did I do? I went to my college and convinced my friends that it was indeed captured by my friends' brother's friend! A week later, I received a forwarded email from my buddy that contained detailed about the same picture! As it appears, the picture was cleverly photoshopped in some Eastern European country.

Again, learn your lesson and give up dude.

Let's see. You worked illegally for six months. You knew you couldn't pay the cost of education in a four year college/university. So you lied to the people in the embassy just to get into US. If you had told them you would go transfer to a community college once you came to US, you wouldn't be here.

Most people have pointed out that it's very unlikely that you will get caught if you go back and return. I believe them, because the officer at the port of entry wouldn't have all this information. But I encourage you to go back. At least they have a better chance of deporting you than if you stay here.

Part of what mikethesick has to say is true, that they will ask for your i20, and as long as it is valid i.e. not expired and has a recent (6 months) signature on 2nd page, you are fine.

However, I dont agree with mikethesick about visa and i20 being from different instuitions. The whole point of sevis system (remember the $100 we paid for that thing) and i20 is to keep track of us while we jump colleges and universities.

I also agree with the immigration officers not knowing what they are supposed to do. [once this guy made me wait while he went over to a colleague for help, maybe it was his first day]
[I had travelled to Nepal while in college, then to Canada while in OPT]

Go home without any fear, and offer 1 dollar on my behalf to Pashupatinath, as someone else said.

I was in your situation two years ago. I really had to go , missed a girl so much:), but I had transferred to another university. Had no idea what would happen. Nothing. Nada. Do you have five year multiple entry visa still valid? In that case, just relax, go home and come back, without even going to the US embassy. In port, the officers will take one minute to ascertain that you are in the good status and let you in.

Remember we are in this country means this country is also getting something. US doesn't want to scare away students from friendly countries such as Nepal--our name is not Mohammed, and our sirname is not Khan, so no problem.Don't be afraid.
