Talk with Upendra Bhatta, candidate for joint secretary of NRN-USA
Upendra Bhatta
Upendra Bhatta, a day stock trader and paralegal by profession, is a young man of tremendous energy serving Nepalese community here in America for a long time now. He has been staying in New York City. He is currently working at The Bhatta Law Firm in Manhattan, NY. Bhatta is one of the most forward individual when it comes to uniting community and social service. Youths of Nepalese community are enthused getting to know the fact that Bhatta is representing them at NRN-USA election which is happening on June 4th, 2014. NRN, established with an aim of uniting Nepalese living in Diasporas, has been conducting election to effectively carry out its activities.

Mr. Bhatta’s campaign appeal:

Bhatta campaigning
Bhatta campaigning
1) I believe in team work and believe that incorporation of ideas from all spectrums is vital for a healthy organization. I want to aid NRN by increasing youth participation and ideas and I believe that healthy dose of change is necessary to break NRN free from obsolete ideas and old way of doing things.
2) Instead of alienating youths from NRN, I want to utilize their skills and knowledge and usher NRN into new age as NRN strives to become vital and appealing organization.
3) I will always voice against personal and partisan gain and work selflessly for furthering the ideals of NRN.
4) I want to raise the issue of dual citizenship as I firmly believe that once you are a Nepali, you will always be a Nepali.
I expect to get your support in my efforts of increasing meaningful youth participation in NRN and breaking it free from traditional thoughts that are asynchronous with challenges posed by different time and place that we live in. Please help me win by casting your valuable vote.

Talk:

1. What do you plan to do as a joint secretary of NRN-USA?

–This election is only a platform for me. It is a short term position. What I intend to do is enhance the participation of young folks into NRN-USA. I think NRN should be run by youths who have skills, brain and ability to make things happen.

2. Why aren’t Nepalese youths interested in NRN?

–Youths think NRN is run by old fashioned Nepalese mentality that doesn’t work. They don’t think it is about them and their generation. They think that this is an organization of few retired people who are trying to spend their spare time doing politics and getting social recognition. Youths have been active in social and community events but not in NRN for this reason.

3. What if you don’t win?

–It doesn’t matter if I win or not. If youths participate and become active in NRN-USA, my aim will have been accomplished. I am trying to reach out as many youths as I can; bringing them on board will be my victory.

4. Who do you think should be NRN president? Who deserves it?

–Capable person should be. Such a person should be a president who can encompass the vision of Nepalese youths and help them contribute both in their motherland and America.

I am not becoming part of NRN-USA to attain cheap popularity or spend my time because I have nothing else to do. I am participating in this campaign to contribute to the Nepalese American society. My thing is that NRN should not be led by folks of obsolete ideas but the baton should be passed unto the new generation Nepalese Americans who can drive our community momentum in the USA and in Nepal.

5. Your message to Nepalese youths in America:

–I urge you all to be a part of NRN-USA and begin contributing to your own society here in the USA. If you are already established, you should provide any kind of help like internships, jobs and other ways you can. If you join me in this mission, together we can strengthen our identity here in the States and in Nepal. A Gorkhali should always be available to a Gorkhali in a foreign country when in need. This is the motto that I will always live with.
