I'm flying to Kathmandu mid January and was browsing my flying options. I found this airline called Fly Dubai offering tickets as low as one thousand bucks.(Washington - Dubai - Ktm)
I've always flown with Qatar airlines before but they can't beat this price. Anyone has any prior experience with Fly Dubai?

they both fly 77W planes. Same configuration plane wise.

Compare the transit time and price and make a decision. Dont sweat over saving $100.

Thanks for the input guys ! I'm enrolled in Qatar Airways frequent flier program and it normally costs me around 1400 bucks depending on the time of the year.
Checked on lonely planet and the reviews are mostly negative. I'll pay couple hundred more. It's not worth the hassle !

where are you getting the fact from about FlyDubai? FlyDubai DOES NOT have any Boeing 777 in its fleet. The entire fleet of FlyDubai consists of BOEING 737 and those 737 aircraft do not have range to reach US from Dubai!

FlyDubai flies to Eastern European countries, South Asian countries and Eastern African countries.

Maybe the OP can share the link?

I got the price quote from expedia.com and airfare.com ! And yes looks like there they have a different airline flying from DC to Dubai !

Fly dubai is a sister airlines for Emirates, You buy Emirates or Fly Dubai tickets from US to Nepal its a same thing.

Now you see....big airlines like Emirates, Singapore, and Cathay have sister airlines that they use for shitty destinations. This way they cannot let Shitty Stats ( arrival, departure, delays, crappy customer service, lost bags, stolen bags, over booking) from the shitty destinations effect their world class branding.

I assumed that you would know this already hence i dared to pull the fact that Emirates will fly your behind on 77W from the first world to middle east and will use their shitty brand Fly Dubai to haul your behind again from middle east to the shitty destination.

Singapore - Silk
Cathay - Dragon
Emirates - Fly Dubai

Re: Fly Dubai - Emirates. The two operate on codesharing basis. It's a common norm in International flights (UA-Turkish for example) but I'd highly advise against booking a flight that do codeshare.

Let me tell you why.

My mother had a roundtrip scheduled with Fly Dubai-Emirates recently (US - Dubai on Emirates and Dubai-Ktm on AirDubai). She had a layover of 16 hrs at Dubai and they wouldn't provide hotels because they were two different airlines! What really pissed me off was the fact the prick who we booked our flights through didn't distinguish that the difference between 1900 and 1205 pm is 16 hrs! And we actually paid close to 2 grand.

I ended up purchasing Marhaba lounge services at the airport that cost another 400 dollars. It was an awful experience overall. So you might wanna be careful about it.

I would suggest not to fly in Fly Dubai. First of all after u land in Dubai, You have to go to the separate terminal where is for flying to Nepal and Bangladesh and u wont be able to come back and roam to the other international terminal. So if your transit is long you will have hard time to spend your time. Second, They don't serve anything in the flight and you have to pay for it. Third, you will see lot of chiki people who thinks they are better as they can speak English. This was my previous experience during my visit to Nepal, where I paid $1825.37 for the two way ticket, while flying with Fly Dubai.

I'd much rather fly via Istanbul than middle east.

Most of the people working there are either from Philippines, Vetnam or .... and the majority of passengers flying to Nepal will be returning to home from golf country. These worker at airport does not show any respect for their passengers as they think there are the only one who can speak and understand English and treats them unfairly. However, if u start communicating with them in English, then they will try to behave nice.

Thank you for your valuable inputs. Reading all the reviews, I think it's best to avoid both Fly Dubai and Turkish airlines for peace of mind. I booked my tickets from Qatar airways and I'm pretty stoked about going back home. Happy Holidays y'all !!

No offense to you in anyway bro but this airline industry is very complicated to understand. It is not what it looks like from outside. I happen to know this industry closely so was just clearing up things. Even most of the Americans dont have a clue about the regional airline industry and how they operate in the US.

Nepalese with Nepali passport will be treated differently in discriminatory way no matter where we travel from- India, Middle East, Istanbul. It is not fair but people look at Nepali passport differently and thats the truth.

Every route has good and bad things but dont travel the cheapest way to save couple of hundred dollars as you will have a massive headache to deal with and you might actually end up spending more at the end.

Chinese airlines-especially China Eastern might be the cheapest way to go but one has to collect bags at EVERY layover in China.
Havent heard good things about food and layover in Istanbul about Turkish either.
In my personal opinion, Emirates is better than Qatar but Flydubai is whole different animal.Etihad is good as well.

Since you will be flying out of IAD, probably consider JFK too?? Anyway, you have a lot of choices since you are flying out of the East Coast unlike the southern and mid-westerners. Don't forget to read the fine prints though!

Kaji Sahab, contrary to sajhaites' opinion (vast majority seem to have negative remarks abt them), I quite enjoyed it. Their food was quite awesome - Pasta, Chicken over rice, desserts...smoked salmon kinda sucked, though. People fail to realize that the delay is caused due to Nepal's ill-equipped airport. Their planes don't land on time and that not only delays departure off Kathmandu airport, but also results in a lot of people missing their connecting flights to N. America.

This in turn results in people having an awful experience at the airport (Istanbul airport certainly doesn't measure up to Doha/Dubai airports). Due to bilateral ties not allowing Nepalese to receive transit visas, those that miss connecting flights are mostly 'stranded' at the airport. To this, I'd blame ties between both nations instead of blaming the airlines (bear in mind, I spent 20 hrs at the airport, too). Its not that the airlines regularly voted as "Europe and Southern Europe's best airlines) is inefficient. They do provide free accommodation for those carrying US passports. Their flights are quite cheap. You could cough up an extra hundred bucks and stay at the airport hotel itself.

And Emirates is arguably the world's finest airlines. As such, saying one would prefer it over Qatar or Air Arabia/Fly Dubai is equivalent to "akbari sun lai kasi lagayeko", IMHO.

I really wish we had a way of avoiding layover in middle east. The experience of flying home/outside amid a bunch of compatriots headed to/from middle east makes it quite an awful experience. But then again, it's my personal opinion.

Btw, I'd always wondered if there was a catch in flying on Chinese airlines.

If I were flying home via Eastern Asia, I'd definitely pick Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific over anything else.

I think fly dubai is one of the worst airlines. USA to Dubai through Emirates is great but fly dubai is absolutely terrible. Like some of the user said, you have to pay for everything including water. Also the flight attendants are absolutely rude to the passenger. If possible, i would suggest you get other airlines.
