Do anybody knows about the total population of Nepalese people in the USA????

Today's News on Nepalnews.com:

No. of Nepali students to US doubles in five years

The number of Nepali students studying in various US universities and colleges has more than doubled over the last five years, an independent New York based agency said.

The Institute of International Education (IIE) said that the academic year 2003-04 witnessed the largest ever number of Nepali students (4,384) in the US. It was 18 percent increase from 2002-03.

"Nepal is in the top 20 among countries with the largest percent increase in students studying in the US, most studying at the undergraduate level," said the Institute. The number of international students in the US has grown from about 34,000 in the 1954-55 academic year to nearly 600,000 in 2003-04, according to the IIE.

Meanwhile, in a message to prospective Nepali students-- carried by major Kathmandu-based dailies on Tuesday-- US ambassador to Nepal, James F Moriarty, said international students bring cultural and intellectual diversity to our campuses and communities and promote greater understanding between U. S. citizens and people in other societies, an important U. S. policy goal.

Pointing towards tough visa regulations imposed by the US authorities in the aftermath of September 11 terrorist attacks in the country in 2001, the US ambassador said, "Although we have implemented new measures to make our borders and the traveling public more secure, we have not changed the basic criteria for visa eligibility to visit or study in the United States."

Moriarty quoted outgoing US Secretary of State, Colin Powell, as saying that the motto (of the US government) is "Secure Borders, Open Doors."

Powell announced on Monday he was resigning as the 65th secretary of state of the US. Agency reports have quoted Powell as saying that the time had come for him to step down as secretary of state and return to private life.

In his message, ambassador Moriarty, reminded the prospective Nepali students that annual costs of tuition, fees and living expenses vary from $10,000 to $40,000. "Some of the more than 3,000 American colleges and universities offer international students full or partial merit or need based scholarships, opportunities for which increase significantly at the graduate level where assistantships are available," he said.

The US envoy has also advised the Nepali students to make full use of information being offered by the US Educational Foundation and The American Center in Kathmandu if they wish to study in US universities or colleges. nepalnews.com by Nov 16 04

My suggestion to ourselves: set new Nepali standard on respecting
intellectual property right. Well, you can cite partial news clip, but,
lets respect the IP right by not posting the full text of someone whom
we neither requested for courtesy copy nor paid the CC fees. So,
post only a few paragraphs and then, give a link to the original site.
In doing so, you are infact increasing traffic to their site and
copying a part of the news make sense to the owner of the clip.
More traffic to them, means more clicks, and more clickes means
more money to them via Ads and CM, and we will keep on getting
better service. I am not giving lecture to offend you, but, lets
raise our standard.

Well, I have made my own rule for myself that I will not be copying
music and video CD / VCR Tapes / cassette recorder even if I can not buy
original CDs/CT/VCR Tapes, so that I can remain deprived of listening to
Music, but, it will let me avoid snatching someone's time at no cost.

Lets support IP rights and our own peoples will also get benefit and
our stars will not be leaving our country and coming to US to stay
illegally because they could not make enough money from their
original casettes, the reason is we don't like originals as some peoples
say: you have casette recorder at home, why should you bother
IP rights. Xerox copying maching has one notice: buying a Xerox maching
does not grant you right to copy anything you like. Get CC from CCC.

Not to offend you. I am scared that you will blast me. But, this is one
great thing (CCC) that we have to learn in USA. This country is what is
today because of respect ot IP right.

Does US consolate not know that most Nepali are poor? does he not know that $20,000 to 40,000 means a fortune for even so called rich Nepalis. I was supised and found that article rediculous. Has he never been to Ocean city , MD to see the rich Nepalis living 17 in a room , working around the clock?? does America need English speaking Slaves in the name of F1 visa. oh yeah, speaking of F1 visa they should change the name to FU visa.. (fu*K u ) visa. Cuz thats what it does.
I have seen very few Nepali getting real jobs after graduation. I have seen Nepali students spending years on undergraduate degree and getting punished by the cultural differences and loneleness. I don' t think it's worth it.. best place to go study for Nepalis are 1) Nepal, 2) India.. .USA is just too expensive.
