The government has announced an assistance of USD 25,000 for the victims of Katrina hurricane that hit three southern US coastal states last week. The state-run Radio Nepal quoted a government decision to this effect. Meanwhile, in a message sent to US president George W. Bush, King Gyanendra expressed sorrow over the heavy loss of lives and massive devastation caused in the states of Louisiana, Missisipi and Alabama of the US by the hurricane. His Majesty extended deepest condolences and sympathies to the president, the government and the people of the USA ?in this hour of grief and anguish.? State of emergency was declared in New Orleans after armed gangs started looting local people in the aftermath of the hurricane. President Bush toured the states and offered a relief package to rescue hundreds of thousands of peoples still trapped in the hurricane. nepalnews.com by/pd Sep 04 05

What is wrong with our stupid ass government??? When our own government can't provide money for our own people; yet they're trying to help a country that has enough money to take care of themselves. I would be more happy if they'd spend those $25000 for nepalese. I guess small brother always tries to get the attention of the boss.

People in Humal-jumla do not have food to eat, they walk days to the city just to get few kgs of chamal. Why don't our govt. think for them? They just want to show off their greatness to US but do not care of their own people in Nepal. Many kids go to sleep hungry most of the night who cares for them???

I see it as a very positive step by Nepal Govt. $25000 may not be much on a national level, but it surely shows that Nepal is willing to help those in need. It is a strong gesture of solidarity to the affected people. America has always been providing lots of assistance whenever big natural disasters have occured, not only in Nepal but almost everywhere. This could also prove to be a productive investment in the sense that you never know when next natural calamity is going to hit Nepal and at that time, the favor may be returned in a bigger scale.

This is a good job done by the government. Sri Lanka has also a lot of problems and recently they also had Tsunami. Despite that Sri Lanka also offered $25,000 to US as a token of concern to victims of huricane. Every country will have their problem but despite that have to express such sympathy.

Thank God they used some part of their brain.

What's wrong with providing a little assistance to the people who are in such a tragic situation? I think, some people are having G-phobia. They simply can't tolerate anything (whether its good or bad) done or said by king Gyanendra. Isn't it clear that the assistance is not only from the king or the government, its from all Nepalese people?

Well, I have donated some money too though I do not have a job and do not make any money. It is good to help but I guess it is gyane -phobia. It is good to help everyone not only rich people. Poor are the one who needs more help and they really appriciate . yeah, it does feel good to help those who are in need and at present Katrina's victom are in need for any kind of help.

I understand both of the views. Gyane is trying to get attention from big doug. Whatever the intention is, it is very humanatarian help and who knows what happens where next! But, the funny thing is i don't see nepal's name anywhere in the news. In CNN, Srilanka is listed as one of the donor but nothing about Nepal. http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/09/04/katrina.world.aid/index.html

to who are against this donation made my The Kingdom of Nepal.. i totally get what you guys are talking about.. why is nepal helping out US who's got more money to help it recover.... rather than helping the poor nepalese or development of the nation.... BUT, this is by far one of the best move made by our Government..... Its called building better diplomatic relationship with the country who could help develop Nepal.. if thats not gonna happen.. this its just show that Nepal is there to assist when needed.. Now.. some rich nation MIGHT take this action of Nepal as a generous act.... and might do something for Nepalese ppl... and we might ended up getting more than we actually gave out for donation.... Some ppl know it by the word "KARMA" and its good to help ppl in need.. and if you think that Nepal giving donation to HELP OUT THE VICTIMS is not right..... and really care about Nepalese ppl like you say....try not eat one meal a day whenever you could and save that money and donate it to Nepal or if you really cant miss out on your meal, .. then not spend on something that you dont really need and donate the money that you were to spend on that for the welfare of the people you care so much...
