Damon signed and agreed to cut his hair for 52 million for four years with Yankee.

I think the Red Sox Organization is not handling situations well.

more later.

If i was a red sox fan, i would feel insulted. i think the owners r taking advantage of the fact that they have some of the most loyal fans. but thinking that because the same fans stuck with them for 84yrs to win the world series would stick around for another 84 is pretty foolish.

now it will give me one more reason to hate the yankees...lol not that im a red sox fan or anything but its just fun to see yanks not win even though they spend all the money in the world to bring top players :p

but im happy for damon because he's a classy guy and still has respect for the game and the fans. i along with few friends went to see a movie after watching the twins red sox game earlier in the day and to my surprise johnny damon happen to be in the theater watching the same movie with usl. so after the movie i approached him and asked for an autograph and he was really cool about it...and signed it "to the No.1 twins fan....johnny damon" i had my twins santana's jersey on :-)

Ax, I like Bernie too, but who are we kidding. Even Bernie knows it's time for him to retire. It was considerate of Yankees to sign him up for another year again. Damon might not have a good center fielder arm & he wasn't that great (compared to Jeter) last year, but his addition will make this club the lethal weapon that would be hard for any pitching team to counter.
It's a bad news for the rivalry though. It's almost like Boston lost the interest once they won the world series. I agree with Hukka on owner's not paying attention too much just coz they have a fan base. Hopefully Boston will salvage their worst off season in last few years.

GO YANKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES

Shirish Pal:

I somehow found quite a similarity between Johnny Damon and Derek Jetter- sportsmanship and lookwise. Both are dashing and both are quite a star on the fields. I just wonder if two kings can rule the same kingdom.

Hopefully we all will see his two dimple cheeks without that hairy beard.

DWI, statstically Damon had a better year than Jeter. Jeter is a not a true leadoff hitter. The lineup looks great butI am going to lose oppurtunity to see Bernie playing. That's the problem for me... heheheehh I was really pissed when they shipped Tino to Cards.... I still don't like Giambi.....

I thought Johnny is married. isn't this the same guy who cheated on his wife with 9 diff women??? I am sure we will get to read about this story very soon... New York Media :=)

DJ2 rules the Yankees and NYC....

It seemed to be after listening to all the local channels that the girls are more heart broken by Damon's departure. The girls found him neat and cute.
I just could not beleive he ended up with Yankees.'
Where has his loyality gone and of course, money talks.

It was funny to see a local news paper with two news items of Damon in the same page.
One read, Red Sox still with talks with Damon to close the deal and another read, Red Sox's end of love affair with Damon.

So who is guilty in this deal, Red Sox or Yankees or J. Damon ?

shirish bro, noone is guilty. It's all Business and please don't talk like it's happening first time in Red Sox nation. We all know about Clemens, Pedro and Boggs incidents. Damon got the better deal from Yankees and he has better chances of winning championship with Yankees. Who wouldn't take it?? more money with better team, wouldn't you??? I am surprised that inept Red Sox organization sat there doing nothing to get him.

Did Red Sox mgmt really thought Johnny was going to take 4 years $40 mil deal when Furcal signed 3 year $39 mil deal from Dodgers??? I remember few years ago, Yankees was in the similar position. ALl thought Petite was going to remain with Yankees but he signed with his Astros, hometown team. not only that he was successful to court another retired Yankees named Clemens to play with him......

It's bad news for Red sox, they would need 2 players to void left by Damon..... As I said I don't like the signing, he is not a true Yankees like Bernie, DJ2 or Posada at least to me....

shirish said "it seemed to be after listening to all the local channels that the girls are more heart broken by Damon's departure. The girls found him neat and cute."
>>> hahahha this is funny shirish bro... It seems Red Sox nation don't have good looking and eligible bachelor like DJ2 that girls from NE are looking for a guy who cheats while his wife was in labor..... did i mention with 9 diff women LOL..... ya guys know how much pissed I am with this signing :=)

One positive thing with this signing is that yankees didnt have to give up any potential player(s)... Yankees gotta call players Cano and Wang from their farm system.... Come on Yankees, we wanna see more DJ2, bernie, fonso, Posada, petite like players......

No one. If anyone or anything is, then it has to be capitalism. A capitalist society shall see many of these so called "shocking" deals. There is no such thing loyalty in the consumerist society and thus, we shall see these transactions until and as such.

On the more quixotic side of things, I saw this one article where Mr. Damon was quoted saying how money was not an issue and there is no way in the world he would consider Yankee (of all the franchise) as an option, try as hard they may. Oh how righteous a soul he sounded. :)

Like they say, everything and everyone has a price. There is no such thing called charity; generally speaking.

The names count for zilch on the field. Brazil does not have a dozen world cups.

Astu!

Johny Damon or whoever,
Red Sox fans didnt' wait 84 years to get the world series just because he was playing on the team. Even Ted williams is forgetten now.
Did you not see how he bit the dust in playoff this year?
He made Redsox win, people give him respect and money, this year he couldn't do well, still he was kept. It was his will to go to Yankees.
Fans will always cheer for their team, not for players if you are a game fan. players come and go but the team will always be there.

nepalishila, where are those Brooklyn Dodgers and NY Giants??? I for one go for player(s) usually... that's why you see me cheering for diff teams :=) baseball been only the sport that I haven't switched the team yet and hopefully I won't have to in future.....

i agree with sahila, red sox have forgetton their heros liek Teddy and Nomar... that's what I have been telling people, Yankees n Red Sox fans are different... When I get a chance I always talk about Yankees legend like Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, Yogi, Dent, Mantle, Mr October, Whitey, Mattingly, O'Neill and it's rich tradition :=)

When yankees let go Tino, I was so pissed... and I picked Cards over Yankees for the championship game....

Red Sox nation are crying like it they let go one of their best farm system player... let's not forget Damon joined red sox via free agency... i did not hear the same when Red Sox traded away their beloved farm system player name Nomar 2 years ago....

I would rather see Ichiro in pinstripe than the hairy idiot.. LOL

Only girly men or girls cheer for players with long hairs and good looks.
Real men like sports.

AX, I could understand. Bernie is a class act and a true Yankee. There are only select few true Yankee in this roster: Jeter, Bernie, Posada, Mariano Rivera...am I missing anyone?

Whose fault is it? I guess some of it is Red Sox fault. It reminds me of how Yankees lost Andy Petite.

DWI,
Damon came to join Sox on a free transfer. He made what he is all out of Redsox. And had the Redsox not been in a huge profit, they wouldn't let Damon go. It is all money that matters.
We can't say that just coz David Becham left Man Utd, their fans have been reduced. In fact, they are angry with Becham for leaving.
Players come and go. There was this time when Bergcampl fans, Baggio Fans cheered up for them but now they still play but it is not for their performance they cheer up for. There are other players in their club who are running the show.
Damon came, played and won the world series, it is sports but he left, it was business and management.

I am glad u see that way NepeSahila, but am not sure if all the red sox fans see it that way. I gave Andy Petite analogy because it was similar scenario. Both Andy and Damon had will to stay with their club, but complained that the clubs didn't show much interest on them.
When A-Rod left Seattle, fans were angry with A-Rod not Seattle. That's coz despite club's interest A-Rod left Seattle for big-bucks Texas.
I doubt Damon is going to be booed in Fenway as fans sympathize with him more than the club...and specially with their disastrous off season, Red Sox Nation might loose some of its citizen..may be not.

Johnny Damon is not worth $13 million bucks. Yanks again grossly overpaid Damon just like they did to Bernie. Lets see how Damon will perform in 2 or 3 year. Will he still be worth $ 13 million a year? I doubt it.

pats..do we even care? I mean, MLB doesn't impose any salary caps..so who cares how much the General (Steinberner) pays for these players.
It just sounds like "grape is sour" to me now.
One interesting fact, Yankees Payroll for 2006 is below 200 mills, which they exceeded in 2005. So even if you do care about the salaries, Yankees are heading in right direction. The poor guys had to suffer 35-90 mills loss this year due to lux tax and all.

I am as much disappointed as Red Sox fans with this signing. Peronsally, I do think Yankees overpaid for the average throwing arm. Guys like Furcal are making $13 mil a year, pitchers who have losing record gets 11 mil per year and a closer get $9 mil a year, in that regard the $14 mil a year for the best player in the free agency makes sense…. Pats, what was our reaction when Red Sox gave 4 year contract to the aging Catcher(???) last year????

The reason I am disappointed is that Bernie not going to get to play fulltime. I still think he has 2 more years in his fall of fame career. Last year he had the worst season and no one knows exactly why the stats went down. If Yankees have a genius like Pats who can predict future, the organization would have saved so much money…. I hope BOSS will find out soon about him.... Looking at the contract, I say posada is the most overpaid player in the Yankees organization… Posada should only play 705 of the game so he can be fresh during the playoffs…. Yankees need to sign a good backup Catcher .. Molina??? heheheh

DWI said “The poor guys had to suffer 35-90 mills loss this year due to lux tax and all.”
>>> DWI, I am surprised that you really thought Yankees lost the money. I couldn’t find the contract deal between Yankees and YES. Yankees got a lot lesser than the actual value, that we know why... no wonder every organization wants to have their own tv network… Mets have it now, Angels is planning for it and others will follow soon

One thing I have to give prop to Yankees is that with this signing they made Red Sox scratching their head…. Red Sox have no idea this was coming. Yankees filled the need for Centerfielder and leadoff hitter with one player. With this singing Yankees got better and crippled their archrival from the same division….. wots Luchhino plan now??? It took him few months to fill the GM position and may take a month or 2 to find the replacement(s) for Damon. The irony is Luchhino needed 2 people to fill the void left by Theo and may have to do the same with Damon’s departure

How come none is talking about Blue Jays??? They have a pretty good offseason... Red Sox have to worried about them not Yankees now... Uncle chips and other from north of the border, where are ya ppl???

Ax, I found a link to support my claim, read on:
Even with the undervalued tv deal with YES (Yankees own network), they recorded a record loss.

I do think Posada is slighly overpaid, but hey, he is one of the pillar of this team. Pitchers like him and he could get streaking hot sometimes. He has been best catcher in New York for last 3 years.

As far as Bernie's decline, we know why it happened...he is frigging 37 years old and is a center fielder!!
I like to see him around and he could get sporadically hot, but you cannot count on him the way you used to. I think he will retire after his contract is over. His guitars make better music than his bats now-a-days.

Last but not the least, lemme remind Red Sox fan that they are the second highest paying ballclub and they were the one who were willing to pay the highest amount to any player (A-Rod), after Texas wanted to trade him.

DWI, that's what exactly i meant. Yankees only charge the YES Network $60 million a year to broadcast games according to the link you posted. I believe Yankees were making 80+ million in 2002 (have to find the article i read long time ago) so that value must have gone up not down.... I also need to check on Dodgers and Angels tv contract.... so we will have fair idea regarding Yankees and YES deal.

I don't know about the Red SOX organization but they do have great loyal fans... i can tell ya that are run better than the LA Dodgers :=) how can organization like Red Sox not have a 2nd plan??? Red Sox didn't need longer time to find the GM(s) than Dodgers :D:D As proud said, Luchhino should have stepped aside so Theo can run the organization...... Theo in Boston if good for baseball... i won't be surprise if he comes back next year

We know they tried their best to acquire AROD 2 years, but let's not forget it was 3 mil year short that landed AROD with Yankees..... They also trying to trim their payroll for next year..... One thing I like this year is noone is getting 7 years deal.... I hope those outrageous long contract days are gone....

One thing I forgot to mention regarding Bernie Williams was that he decided to stay with Yankees for less money (7 years ago???) Boston was the other team which was willing to pay more than Yankees....
