Friends! I am willing to go to Nepal after fall semester for winter break. I have to aplly for visa in the embassy to come back. I am scared they will deny me visa because I changed by status from tourist to student. However I have now full scholarship in college and I think that will be plus point, do you suggest I should go. Please share your experiences or hearsay.

well, if you finsih pracanda or babram of CPN(M) during your stay in Nepal, USA will be so happy with you. Then visa will not be a probalem.

You may consider on the following factors: 1. How long have you been in F-1 status? 2. Are you studying for undergraduate or graduate degree? 3. How is your academic standing in the past semesters? 4. Is your school a reputed one? etc.

Being a graduate or undergraduate sudent should not make difference in his case. However, graduate students have always a better chance of getting visa when they are applying for the first time.

I dont think going to Nepal is such a good idea. I havent heard myself in your condition going to Nepal. You might still want to try some consultancy in Nepal who supposedly have some people in links (nepaliz) working in US embassy. After the recent staff cut offs, I dont know whether they are still there.. Try your best

kastamandap.... dont worry man. u will get the visa in nepal.... as long as u have been in legal status all thru out in usa and havent commited any serious crime or been arrested by police... u have a 99.99 % chance of getting a visa back... the embassy wont want to disturb your studies since u have already studied 1 semester in usa... my situation is similar to yours but different...- i finished my bachelors here and used my OPT work and now im going back to nepal and have to apply for a Visa for masters.

If you have changed your status from tourist to student, your chances are not good. Embassy is specially suspicious of travellers who have done that. They feel and think you did it purposely. Just my 2 paisa thought.

you said ............I am graduate student, have been in F1 status for three years....... This means you are probably in PhD program. And 3 years... you might have already done with your PhD qualifying. In this case there is no reason for them to stop you. You are PhD candidate.

Thanks again for the suggestions. Anybody else with more info would be great. Hotboy come to US, meet an international advisor to any college and they'll help you through the process, it's no big of a deal. Gamle, I wish I was a PhD student.
