I recieved an email from my friend with following questions. I don't know exactly the answers so please post your suggestions here so that I can repply him.

The email reads:

An Engineer has won dv lottery for 2007 and his case number is in 22xx series.

Please would you give the suggestion for the following questions. It would be very helpful to get your suggestions as soon as possible so they can join training immediately.

1. What kind of further training/certification will help for my Engineer friend to get job easily there? His qualification is BE Civil, MSc in Water Resources Engineering and his age is 49. He has good command in Autocad, Land Development etc related to civil engineering.

2. What kind of training will be helpful for his wife to get job there? Her academic qualification is SLC.

3. What kind of computer training will be helpful for his daughter to get job there - She has completed Bachelor in Business Studies . She has basic computer knowledge only. I have heard that some Indian accounting software has market there. Here we can get training for FACT, Tally and TATA-Ex. If this is true, then please suggest what would be good for her.

I don't know 1 and 2 number's questions but since I am woring in software field I can give suggestion:
1.---------------------
2.---------------------
3.
If she needs to come in programming field she can learn C, C++, and Java etc so she can easily learn .NET or Database here in USA. I mean to say she should have good basic programming skills in object oriented programming and in procedural programming. It is not so hard to get job for in IT nowadays especially DV winner.
Thanks

Thank you Sanjnep71 for your repply.

If my guess is correct, many Engineers visit this site. Do you guys know whether a person with an Engineering degree from Nepal can apply for a job which is advertized for persons with Engineering degree?

Please do not say one can apply but it is upto the employer who makes the descision. My concern is whether degree from Nepal is recognized in the job Market. I know for sure Universities admits the students with Nepali degree but I don't know about the employers.

you friend has to be really lucky to be accepted by employers. To my knowledge ..except some reputed ones like IIT or AIT,most of universities not affliated with US , the degree is not recognized.Sorry man , these Americans think they are superior in everything. So bad luck.chances of getting accepted 20-25%.Since you have greencard. There is hope though. You have experience and that matters a lot.Plus you can will easily pass EIT.that will get you to the door. Then you can take your PE . So there is good chances:)

well to his wife ..i can't say go do Bsc in nursing but polytechnical stuff like..beautician,hairdressing etc might be helpful. They make good money. They need to be certified in USA too.but there is loop holes .

Her daughter since she has interest in computer if she gets microsoft certifications like in application develoment MCDBA,MCSD and stuff that will be helpful.+
the training on those stuff is cheaper in NEPAL compared to USA.

Personally, I don't think a degree from the U.S or elsewhere matters. If he has the experience and can prove he/she's got the skills, he should be able to get a descent job if not the best. Language is very important, regardless of the profession. From what you've mentioned I can see everyone else but the the wife getting a descent job (40K+).

His/Her resume should be solid with all the projects he/she has achieved. Unless the engineer has been sitting on his ass in a highly acclaimed government project doing nothing, I don't see why he wouldn't get a descent job. He/she needs to have the will to do it.

Goodluck.

SANJNEP71, can you get me a job in Computer though. It would really be helpfull and you sound like you are very confident in finding nepali brother and sis a job very easily

Hello Mike,
It is really not so hard to get jobs in IT. Although you can't get permanent jobs due to visa status (If you have green card it is too easy) you can get contract job of 3 or 6 months or 9 months even 1 year. If you have MS or BS in computer science or closely related area there are plenty of Indian recruiting companies who can train you and place somewhere. But my preferred method is to post the resume on dice or Monster and get interviews. If you can get more and more interviews the questions will be same again and again. So after 5 or 6 interviews you know what kind of questions the company will ask. Another main thing is you need to prepare your resume very well so there is a high chance of getting an interview. I wrote it base on my past experience, hope it will help you.
Thanks

lurkhurke ji,

A friend of mine has the same case. He has B.E from Nepal in civil engineering with 3 years of experience. I modified his resume and he had three offers with in three months.

If somebody has a green card, pls let your future employeer know about your status in your cover letter. This is very important. Degree doesnot matter unless it's from MIT, CMU, UCB and so on.

Say good luck to your friend
