Peace and Reconstruction Minister Ram Chandra Poudel hinted at no action against those who are alleged to have committed human rights abuses in the past.

Speaking at a regional conference in Palpa on formation of Truth and Reconciliation Commission, on Friday, Poudel said taking action against those involved in crimes in past would instigate conflict again.

There have been demands from various sectors to punish the persons pointed out by the Rajamajhi commission as guilty of being involved in human rights abuses and crimes.

Poudel further said that the time has come for reconciliation to lead the peace process to successful end.

He said the Act for forming the commission would be presented before the parliament after rigorous consultation with experts, victims of the conflict, human rights activists and concerned authorities across the country.

The government has initiated efforts to form the commission after the Maoists demanded that it be formed before the constituent assembly election is held. nepalnews.com ia Dec 21 07
