on the outset of transition from old nepal to the much anticipated and dareisay 'overhyped' new nepal, in my view and to which, i believe, most of you folks agree, there are some serious challenges that face nepal which should be tackled with great precision and care to avoid any sorts of future conflict or worst so, political calamities.

i don't see much problem in the current political deadlock which has arose due to the conflict in power sharing and failure in the political parties' part to come to a consensus for the same. we being we (nepali) tend to somehow find our ways to come up with a consensus in the very last minute of the 12th hour () notwithstanding early incessant quarrel, bickering and blame game just like we did on the historical day which saw the official end of the monarchy in nepal.

while it's gonna take some time and minor tussles here and there, but sooner than later these political forces are going to settle with a reasonably rational position for each other, i believe.  thereafter new constitution will be drafted and the first ever parliamentary election will be held in the federal republic of nepal (after some foresight and real hardwork that is)

building/rebuilding of physical infrastructures and the subsequent economic revolution will soon kick off (hopefully) but it's not gonna come to a visible shape in months or years, perhaps in a generation or two, at least (being brutally honest/realistic) and by then most of we folks will be paving our ways to heaven/hell depending on our good/nefarious deeds...

so looking at the present scenario with a close up lens, i see the need of tackling each challenge one by one and give the most stable, reasonable and practically viable solution to them so that we don't need to come back to them again later and they don't come as hindrance in our ways in the future again and again.

the first thing that's posing some real challenges at this stage is army integration IMO.

so let's talk about it.

Objectives:
To integrate some 25000 PLA to the nepal army (some 90000)?
(Methodologies for the merger? Multiple solutions? The most efficient/practical/logical one?)

Challenges:
1) While maoists have disarmed (for the most part ), PLA belongs to maoists meaning they are, by principle, affiliated to maoists and are operated or have operated in the past by maoists ideologies. Can we afford to have a force affiliated to a particular political party and their ideologies in democracy? of course not. so how do we help them transform from their guerilla war mentality to a non-party-aligned security force that can/will work unconditionally for the integrity and security of new nepal? we want new nepal and not another congo. Fact check: Second Congo War

2) NA will not at once and easily embrace the force they fought so vehemently against not a long while ago. How do we create a conducive environment and a friendly atmosphere within NA to bring about a successful merger that works not only temporarily but also for the long run?

3) logistics:
(a) after the merger, we will have some 120000 armies. add to that police and armed police numbers. given our geo-political reality, do we even need all of them? what do we do with the excess?

(b) what do we do with the untrained or inadequately trained PLA members?

(c) what about those 4000-5000(?) of them who are women? what do we do with/to () them?

#####
i have been thinking about this for a while and i have, within myself and with some of my friends/colleagues, come up with a proposed solution. i will discuss it in my next post sometime later (time permitting, as i have limited access to internet from here). in the mean time, i want to read your inputs. please feel free to opine/chip in. i am all ears. let's brainstorm. remember, new nepal is not possible and democracy cannot prosper in it without big and small contributions from we the people. and to all those folks with progressive mentality and optimistic attitude, i am very much tempted to say: yes we can!
