One of the random thought keep coming to me lately after witnessing some discussions on Sajha. All of us at some point of our lives had a big dream to come to US and achieve so called "prosperity and success". We left our family, motherland and our dear&near ones.We might have succeed and amassed great deal of material possession. It makes me feel sad that we dont see the same way we used to when we left KTM with teary eyes. Just to follow our culture and tradition,we are now questioning ourselves "does it really makes sense?" i donn know if thats a right thing or a wrong thing but one thing i know for sure is,we  are constantly doubting our practices and norms that we learned while grouping up.I m not an exception to this but i just think these days: we came all the way to a different part of a globe and now start questioning our own culture & tradition? I just wish Nepali culture wont be just limited to the pages of history: i really dont

BY THE WAY CAN YOU BE CLEAR ON WHAT CULTURAL PRACTICES ARE YOU REFERRING TO?

I KNOW OUR CULTURE HAS SOME BAD THINGS. BUT REMEMBER, NO CULTURE IS PERFECT AND EVEN THE MOST ADVANCED CULTURE HAS DEFECTS. WE SHOULD TRY TO THROW THE BAD, PRESERVE THE GOOD AND MAKE IT EVEN BETTER.

I KNOW YOU MAY BE THINKING ABOUT ANIMAL SACRIFICES AT THIS TIME, BUT I BELIEVE THAT ANIMAL SACRIFICES IN NEPAL WAS(IS) A MEANS TO EAT MEAT. NEPALESE PEOPLE CANNOT AFFORD TO EAT MEAT EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE. SO, THEY GET TO EAT MEAT IN THE NAME OF RELIGION SACRIFICES.

EVERYDAY MORE ANIMALS ARE SLAUGHTERED IN DEVELOPED COUNTRIES THAN DURING RELIGION SACRIFICE IN NEPAL.

I think its good to question ones culture and views. Definitely better than "andhabiswas". Questioning does not mean we are discarding everything, we might discard some practices such as dowry but only after reasonable contemplation. This is healthier than blindly following traditions.
Also, I do not think we are the first generation to do this. Each generation goes through this phase and changes the direction of the mass culture a little bit, What triggers such questioning might be different. Democracy might have been one of such triggers, To us it is experiencing western lifestyle.

It's ok to question everything. There are good and bad everywhere. If you can identify them and live accordingly, you have done well regardless of where you live.

Eventually everybody will move towards Western culture:

1) Love marriage
2) Divorce is ok if one wants to leave
3) No sex without consent
4) Human rights
5) Animal rights
6) Rule of law
7) Democracy
8) Etc, Etc

This is true as long as Western countries/cultures are powerful...

I guess it all depends on how prosperous the society is. It's about being in a position to make choices. In that sense, Power Ranger has a point.

Cultures and traditions haven't started to change recently....they have been changing all the way upto here. Rather, the speed of change has gone away up....internet, globalization and flow of nepali youths to developed and developing counries along with internal conflict are becoming the fuel of this change. This speedy change sure feels scary sometimes  But if  Nepal and Nepali culure has survived more than of 5000 years of existence....i believe, we will survive this change too.....Aakhir....YO MAAN NEPALI HOOOOOO !!!!!!
