Most of the guys and girls on sajha are pretty smart. I just came across one more scam in craigslist. Just giving a heads up for any of our Nepalis out there. I was looking for an apartment. The deal almost sounded too good to be true. Whenever I'm on ebay or craigslist or sites like this I always try to remind myself: if it sounds too good, it probably is. So this apartment sub-lease sounded too good to be true. But I just couldn't see any catch. So I contacted the renter. So they reply back with a beautiful email and just tell me that I need to do a credit check. The credit check costs $15 by credit card. That is the scam. The credit check website puts out tons of attractive craigslist advertisements and makes people pay for these credit checks. Anyway, it seems that these scammers are getting more ingenious by the day. Anyone else have a 'craigst list story?'

"""if it sounds too good, it probably is""
I am not sure if you firmly believe this....i'll say change this to;- if it sounds tooo good to be true then it prolly isnt .....this will help you alot!!
My experience is that i do not use craigslist for anything else than buying furnitures..that too although the Pic was posted, arrived in reallly crappy shape that i had to throw away in a month....I almost LOL to one of my friend when she said she was looking for job in Criagslist....craigslist is worse than ebay as they dont even have a rating system or incentive for sellers to be honest....it has become a venue to all the criminals now.....as they say deal locally and carefully.....

Hmm.. you get lots of genuine Job posting at craiglist. Specially, small businesses are posting on CL. And even google too.

These scammers, they are so convincing. I too almost fell victim to such a scam. I was looking for a house to rent and was communicating via email. The scammer sent me a link to obtain a free credit score and told me that it was required for viewing the house. I was this close to filling it out but then at the last moment thought about it and decided not to blindly fill out the form.
Beaware, there is another phone scam going around now. These people call themselves Debt Free Life Style or something similar and offer you to reduce the interest rate on your credit card debts to 6%. These are Indian/Pakistani sounding people and will try to get your personal information. Be aware..
P.S. Below is the email that I had received from the craigslist scammer (email address was Brenda Abbey <abbey.properties@hotmail.com>)
Hello ******, Thanks for taking the time to email me about the place. We thought we had the place rented last week to a young couple, but communication has dropped off. you are the first person to email about it since we put it back on the market . It would only be fair that we gave you the first shot at the property. Normally, we would prefer a year lease, but would also be open to shorter terms. I'm sure that you will want to see the property before making a final decision. I would simply give you the address and let you swing by, but my husband is against blindly advertising an empty home online. Rest assured the home has been up kept properly and had a good cleaning and fresh coat of paint. Basic utilities are currently on, but we expect that you would get them put into your name fairly quick. If you want to go ahead and schedule a time to see the property, go to the link below and print off the free copy of your report. Your score isn't necessarily important, we're just interested in seeing that there are no evictions / landlord related judgments.
I am very open as far as appointments go to show the property. Any morning after 10am is fine. Just let me know when you have everything printed and be sure to leave me a contact number to reach you at and any desired time. I will call you to confirm a time and choose a place to meet. Thanks for looking, Brenda Abbey

Another famous scam is for buying cars. They will advertise a relatively new car for a low price. The catch is that it 'needs to be shipped to the United States.' It was a beautiful Honda CRV. There are a lot of car scams out there.
