Well I went to Ocean City last summer for the first time.
So I can give you a little idea about whats its like there.

Its good to go with a group or look for an apartment early. Or try calling ur friends from other states who are going there.

For this I strongly urge you all to call Sujan bro as he has given his number. He is in Virginia so he may also be able to go there early and look for an apt.

As far as job, it seems like its not as easy as it used to be. If you get there early like end of April or beginning of May then there is a high possibility of getting a job. But the thing is there are people who are going there for few years so they get the jobs easily.

Living condition is kind a awkward but its livable. 14- 15 people in a two-bedroom apt is normal in OC during summer. So expect for the worse that way you will be better off.

As for how much you can earn. It depends on an invidual. It depends on how much you can work without getting enough sleep. It also depends on what kind of job you get. Some jobs pay you overtime and some dont. Working 70-80 hrs a week is normal and some even go far as working 100 hrs a week. So it depends on how hard you can work. It also depends on how much you can save. Like living expense, food is also expensive there.
As for me I worked one job at a restaurant. I worked an average of 40-50 hrs a week. That was more than enough for a lazy person like me.I easily saved about $3500-4000. But again this was my case so I would not say its case for everybody. Since I worked at a restaurant, I saved lots a money on food. AND they paid me overtime.

As for workpermit, I did not have it. The boss at my job did not ask for the work permit or the social security. I did not have both. But many places are beginning to ask for one. So it depends where u go ask for a job.

I am not going to Ocean City this summer so there might be a hiring at my job as the boss really wanted me to come back. Its in the kitchen. You are basically the chef and in charge of the kitchen. But foods are not that hard to make. You will learn easily if you want. Though you are the "chef", during slow time you have to do everything, like mopping, sweeping, taking out the trashes etc etc. Anything that needs to be done basically. Some nights are really busy especially during weekends and drive you nuts but its pretty manageable during the weekdays. The restaurant is right on BoardWalk between Dorchester and Talbot Street.

I have been unemployed since last semester so life's been quite tough in this paraya desh. ....I have been trying to get the information about ocean city for last 2 months...but never got any...so I thought to go there directly and hunt for the job...but what if i become broke and get back with simply nothing in my pocket...then this site came out of nowhere...and I am quite encouraged to read your email....pretty nice job..I highly appreciate you and montou gurung for whatever effort you guys are taking to help us...

I understand your situation. Being a new here and without job, without money, its very tough.
As far as going to Ocean City, I do not reccomend you to go there alone.

I am leaving for Athens, Georgia tomorrow evening. I will be coming back next Tuesday so you can call me then or give your number I can call you from GA. Athens should be around Atlanta. Dont know how far is Richmond, KY from there. Other wise it would be nice to meet there.

Even though I am not going to OC this summer, I know some of OC veterans who go there every year. You probably can stay with them. First important thing is to find an apt. Once you have an apt then you can go looking for a job. Otherwise you will be in a really bad shape whether to look for an apt or a job.

hey all...im hopin this proves to be a cool way to meet other nepalis ...Ive never been to ocean city myself but it sounds awesome with all the young crowd and everything..I have some buddies of mine who've been going for a few summers so they know about the whole ocean city deal and looks like its gonna be fun, and a lil bit of work i guess, we already got an apartment and jobs lined up..and were not lookin to make it all that crowded so it'll just be about five of us..here's the catch..all those fools live in the east coast and their semester ends pretty soon too..some by the end of april..some end on the first week or two of may...so theyve got the early opportunity and those extra weeks of summer... Ive been planning this trip to ocean city for little over a few months now...most importantly getting to know the east coast better because ive hardly gone outside of california..my semester however ends only towards the last two weeks of may..possibly even around the last few days....therefore..and in making this trip a little more worthwhile and interesting, im driving cross country from here in souther california to maryland ...stoke huh.! ya..so on this note im lookin for some people who are looking to go to maryland towards the end of may., share the gas money..have an awesome drive all the way to maryland, and just have a killer time on the road..so if youre that person..and youd like to save some travel money,meet new people and have a great time on the road, write back at pacchiarotto_momo@hotmail.com its a great deal, dont pass it up if youre heading towards maryland..im travellling on the I40 crossing arizona, new mexico, through a part of texas to arkansas then takin the I 81 from tennesse through virginia to maryland..if youre along the way..then give it thought..theres no bettter way to getting there..im heading out only towards the end of may and the trip will last a few days..two days at the shortest if i gun it top speed on the interstate, but really lookin forward to stopping at interesting points along the way...if you lookin for a free ride then dont bother, its a long time on the road so if you dont have much to say, have poor communication skills, then again, dont bother. I smoke so if that bothers you, then this is not your trip. if you know how to have a good time, and like road trips, then what are you waiting for! driving skils arent required, but if you have a US state issued driver's licence and can drive on the fastways, then thats ok with me, maybe ill let you drive my ride,,no roadside bullshit. no high end demands..have a sweet ride and just wanna eat up the miles all the way...if youve always wanted to travel cross country..or even mid way...then this road trip is on your list..and im even makin it cheap,,gas money will set the deal, so theres no hassle with airline tickets or lost baggage is there!!

hello guys, I have little bit experience of ocean city. i went there last summer and the summer before that. well montau is very right. you got to reach there in early may, so that u can get job, if you reach there by late may or early june its really hard to find job out there. you will meet a lot of nepali kids out there. i think almost 1000 nepali people. ocean city is only for summer, peak period is june-august. it will be very hot in summer there, you can enjoy going out in beach in your day off. you can also go to parks.
many nepali students who go there are from east coast or mid west, so if you know them try to contact them and be sure you will have aprtments to stay after reacing there. otherwise you have to stay in some motels for few days and look for apartments. well some nepali also live in motels and it costs almost same as living in apartments. apartments are really expensive, well in summer i would say everything is expensive because they earn profit of one year in 3 months so you can imagine. and yeah living 10-14 people in two bed room apartment is pretty common. so be prepapred for that. well most of the people work really hard. if you guys dont have sicial security number you might go and try jobs in park at 28th street and boardwalk pier. they will hire you for some ride job even without social security and work permit and they will pay u in cash. there are few stores which will ask for work permit also. so it depends. generally they pay $6-$8 per hour. you can try all the parks, hotels, restaurants, stores at boardwalk, sunsations, food lion and superfresh at 96 th street. there is one nepali restaurant in 15 th street so if u want to eat daal bhat u can go there too. good luck guys. go early as soon as ur semeter is ove. try to contact people who are looking for room mate. you can also search hotels and motels rate online. try to search in google. i know few nepali guys stayed in motel too in 64th street i guess. but most of the people live in inlet to 28 th street. greyhound bus stop is in 2nd street. well i dont know what specific things u guys are looking for, if there is anything specific please post in here or if u want to talk to me or eamil me let me know. once again good luck.

Yeah like south bro said there is a restaurant owned by a Nepali dai. I think its at 15th street and baltimore Avenue. Its called Asian Garden. Decent dal, bhat, masu, tarkari for $6 or $7. I think its a good deal and he is doing a good job.

This might not mean anything to some but tara malai chai dal, bhat khana paye jasto maja kehi lagdaina yaar...

yeah there will be lot of nepali gals too. so dont worry about it. if you are with your wife then it will be better to share apartment with girls group. ask your wife if her friends are also going there. well many nepali girls and guys share apartments togehter also so you can also do it.
