Tough one there mate.

For others, time to look for job is before you graduate, not after.

Hello All,
I wanted to bring this thread up, just to know if anyone out there know about consultancies that help in H1B for other engineerings (chemical, mechanical). Almost all of them are for IT or business. Please share your ideas.. if you have any..
I am graduating soon and have not found a job yet.. It would help if there are some consultancies...

thanks..

@kalopani
It takes atleast 4 years to do a mechanical engineering. People start looking for internship from the first year and for a fulltime job in the second last semester. After graduation it might be a bit late.

papillon,

Don't worry (even if you are worried, don't express during job search).

1.0 Topeka, KS may not be right place to search jobs in “mechanical engineering”, particularly with your “visa status”. Dallas, TX might be better place to focus.

2.0 Network: keep posted on Sajha about your developments. I know some people have found good reference ( & job) with the help of other Sajha members. Make friends, contact seniors working in the field.

3.0 Resume: Make sure you resume has sufficient & correct information to attract prospective employers.

4.0 Go Big, Go Small : Apply to all big companies like, Caterpillar, Cummins, Siemens and don’t neglect small companies like “ John’s Engineering”.

5.0 Don’t worry &  be patient. Meanwhile have some extra income to sustained yourself during job search.

You will get a place to cling soon.

Well in reality there are hardly any internship until u hit the junior year in ur college unless u wanna work for disney in a theme park or sell books door to door in the name of internship. When u get to junior year there are hundreds of students competing for few internships and lots of them don't even hire greencards let alone f1.I am sure he must have tried hid best in 4 yrs . Anyways I am meeting cs graduates in gasstaions too lately so no major is secure in that sense. And ya some of my friends who joined consultancies are dying to come back to f1 status after years and no money saved up because they don't get paid any better than working for gasstations if u count the bench time. So let's not discourage the fresh graduates like they have made a terrible mistake by not having a job lined up by the time they graduate.

I know what you're saying but I also want to send a clear message by saying that you have to start looking for a job early on. If a student follows your earlier statement then they might not get a job at all.
I was one of the lucky ones who got an internship while in school. That internship helped me land a job. Internship solves the age-old quandry that you need an experience to get a job offer - and you need a job offer to get an experience. Internship comes in between and provides you the valuable experience. So graduating students, please get your feet wet before you are planning for your last semester.
Having said that, if you have graduated, keep trying like Mech said. Keep checking the job sites every week-if not every day. Sometime that one posting will be the right match, a friend of mine got an exec position through craigslist.
