@pichas k garney i have to pay both health insurance and tuition. Since health insurance is mandatory for me I thought of being on the safe side and buying insurance for my wife too.
@deshbhaktanepali ... i am going to start grad school that's why america aauna lageko. It's the best school for my program in the U.S and I am happy to have got admitted there. Since I didn't have any idea about buying insurance from Nepal that's why I posted to find out about it from others experience. Since there are companies in India who do it and other international students buy it from home country as it turns out to be cheaper but being Nepali I am not eligible to buy insurance from Indian companies like TATA and ICICI. So was looking at Nepali insurance company options and asking if any body has had any experience.

Thankyou pichas for showing interest in helping me out. I am sorry for not being clear. I believe the insurance is mandatory only for me but I also believe that it is a good idea to have insurance for my wife too who will be accompanying me. I have posted the information from my school's website below.
Individual: $256.00
2-Party: $632.50
Family: $845.00
All full-time and international students are required to purchase health insurance. To opt out of purchasing the students need to provide proof of comparable coverage. Comparable coverage would need to provide a minimum of $250,000 US in coverage for all medical costs and allow the student to use the insurance in the State of Maryland. Students will need to show proof that they have purchased a comparable insurance policy (i.e. ID card with effective date or other documentation with their name it).

Okay that sounds pretty steep. Can you not get the insurance after you come here ? Or you can go here http://www.bcbs.com/buyblue_gen/ and try to get a quote.
If you can get the insurance after you come here you might be able to get lower rates.

Thanx a lot for the links pchas. Ya I can buy it after coming to the U.S. It's just that I have to show the paperwork on the day of orientation. Ani mailey bujhina when you said that if I can buy it from here in Nepal or in U.S bhanera. How will it affect the cost. Do you mean insurance would be more expensive here in Nepal ?

I really don't know how much the costs will run for. But when I got a quote for health insurance in 2009 june/july, it was around $150 per month. But if you buy it in USA they will do the evaluation and send you for medical checkup and evaluation which will make your premium to go up . But if you were to use the second link, they will not need any pre-evaluation or anything. If you have a visa or mastercard you can buy one from there. But if you come here a week before your program, you might be able to find a good a good and cheaper plan.
Don't just buy it yet.
good luck
