I'm trying to get a small business loan and have been looking into sba.gov ........please let me know if any of you know any other way to get this type of loan......i'm trying to get around $200K........thanks so much !!

I went to meet a couple personal bankers this week (Chase and BOA) and I was informed that Banks don't offer loans for start up companies, despite me telling them that I'd put down 50k plus. Do you already have a business or are you looking into starting one? 

Also, could you please enlighten me about sba.gov?

Check with your city. They provide grants for small businesses and for first timers. If your business emphasized on go green, they have higher loan amounts ready for you. Google grants for small businesses in 'city name' and you will find info.
Banks only give loan to established ones and they wanna see 3/4 years financial statements.

 What sort of 'grant' are we talking about furke?

What do you need a loan for...well let me put it this way, is it for a business ( with property/ with out property ). what kinda business ?

 Tranquility, I need a business for my ventures (Subway/Gas Station). I plan to run it on lease first...... 

Footyfan, what do you mean when you say banks do not offer loans for start up companies? I think they do loan money to start businesses. Try looking for a bank which participate in the SBA loan program. I am pretty sure BOA has that program. Oh by the way, I think grants are harder to get than loans.

I spoke to a personal banker at BOA and he told me that these days they don't loan money to start up companies (probably due to recent credit crunch and the current economic condition). I spoke to a personal banker at chase too and he said the same thing. It appears that they're reluctant to get involved in any deals with startup companies. I was told that they'd loan me some money 2 years after the start of my business. 

I need to get more info about SBA loan programs though.
