I know canon eos 60 d is a good one. I have that camera and it's really easy to shoot and the pics are amazing. I bought for 1000 a year ago but now it's down to around 650. You might have to invest some money on the lenses but with time. I also know canon t2i and rebel are relatively cheaper.. Look into those too

IF you are a casual shooter the lens kit that comes with the package deal is good enough. For serious amatuers never buy lens kit that comes with the package deal.
If you are thinking about shooting video with DSLR forget about it. Video with DSLR is crappy as hell (unless you got a good rig and very little fast motion in scenes) .
My Nikon DSLR with Sigma 24-70mm F2.8. Location: Manulife Center

Get a used Nikon d3000 for $200(body only, awesome condition) and buy a brand new prime Lens. Can be any of these two, 35mm or 50mm. You are welcome!

Buying an entry level DSLR isn't a big deal, upgrading is. I am a Nikon guy, so I'd suggest a Nikon. But instead of investing 500 dollars and more in brand new entry level camera, buy D40 off ebay, it should be cheap, and you can practice shooting on it before you upgrade. And upgrade you will - cos every joker (I am speaking of myself) with a DSLR these days aspires to be a great photographer. I bought D40 with kit lens 18-55/4.5-5.6 back in early 2008. Added 55-200 VR and 70-300 VR to it, don't know why, I perhaps lost my mind. While the picture quality with those zooms were remarkably good than the kit lens, I just sold both of them and the camera at the half price. Bought D7000 last year and Nikkor 24-70/2.8 last month. Now I wish I should have bought a full frame FX - sigh. So either buy a 'cheapest' DSLR from the store if you want to have a brand new camera or buy a used one off amazon or ebay OR start saving for a full frame DSLR.
Never thought I'd post pictures in sajha - but I took this one recently.
